3.22 Thurles – LAMBAY ISLAND (1pt e/w – 11/4 generally)
He is the only member of this field returning from a break, but LAMBAY ISLAND could be a different proposition this season upped in trip. There is that nagging fitness concern regarding Henry De Bromhead’s charge, but he was fourth in all three hurdles starts last term, firstly when behind subsequent Listed winner Kiss Will, then behind another Mullins inmate now rated 14 in Runcok, and most recently when only beaten eight lengths at Wexford over 2m having been outpaced. His rating of 109 for this rated event neither over or underestimates his efforts last season, but with the 2m4f distance likely to suit the son of Harzand better, he could make light of this line-up.
5.10 Chelmsford – DREAM COMPOSER (1pt e/w – 6/1 bet365)
Despite racing 54 times on turf compared to just seven runs on the all-weather, DREAM COMPOSER has a decent enough record on artificial surfaces, winning once and placing twice more. Indeed one of only two career wins over 6f came on the Polytrack at Kempton as a three-year-old, but with him now being a seven-year-old, going back up to this distance having mostly raced at 5f is worth another go. He was rated 99 as recently as May, having finished second on his first start of 2025 off 97, but finds himself racing off just 81 here. That is despite a couple of midfield efforts where he was far from disgraced in recent starts and there should be life enough to make him competitive here, especially with Shay Farmer taking off a further 7lb.
6.30 Southwell – SUMMER HEAT (1pt e/w – 11/2 bet365)
Saeed bin Suroor has had seven winners from just 23 runners on all-weather surfaces in Great Britain in 2025 and SUMMER HEAT is overdue one after form figures of 423 at Kempton, Wolverhampton and Chelmsford this year. The daughter of Earthlight was runner-up on her second handicap start earlier this month in a field of 13, ultimately fading in the final furlong over 1m2f. However, on breeding, and previous evidence, the step back to exactly 1m could prove a wise move and she is up just 1lb for that second-placed effort.
7.15 Chelmsford – THE THIRD STAR (1pt e/w – 8/1 bet365)
Highly tried by Chris Dwyer given she has never been rated higher than 84, THE THIRD STAR has thrice raced in Listed events on turf since May, finding those too hot, but seeing her mark fall a few pounds to a competitive one of 81 here. The Iffraaj filly won on her seasonal debut at 25/1, but did so emphatically over 7f at Southwell, her last start on the all-weather, while she was second under a winners’ penalty in a decent event at Yarmouth. Stepping up in class has been her downfall since, but back on all-weather surface and lowered substantially in grade, this could prove much more to her liking.
