1.37 Ludlow – AMANCIO (1pt win – 11/4 bet365)
Faye Bramley has inherited some useful types and is making early waves as a trainer, with AMANCIO one who could serve her well this jumps season. The four-year-old won by six lengths on his hurdles debut for the yard in April before winning back on the flat at Newbury in May. Unseasonably soft ground would have harmed his chances next time out at Chester, but back on quicker going and over hurdles, he could make it two from two over timber for Bramley even under a penalty, with James Bowen a positive jockey booking.
1.45 Fontwell – FOUNTAINS BLENHEIN (1pt win – 2/1 bet365)
This maiden hurdle can go to FOUNTAINS BLENHEIN, a useful bumper horse for Anthony Honeyball last term. He is a full brother to former Grade 3 handicap winner Fountains Windfall, who reached a peak rating of 157 and hinted at possessing some of that ability when an easy winner of a Fontwell bumper on debut. That was so promising a run that he went for the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree next time out but keenness ensured he faded well out of contention. Nevertheless, his first start, coupled with his connections’ evident faith in him, both bode well for what he can do over hurdles.
2.00 Nottingham – VALOR SPIRIT (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
VALOR SPIRIT may be yet to get off the mark in seven starts, but the son of Ardad has been immensely consistent, finishing second to subsequent Listed winner Charimanfourtimes at Pontefract and third a further five times elsewhere. His only disappointment came in a strong nursery at Doncaster, but he is 2lb lower than that day and proved himself on soft ground at Ayr last time out. The runner-up that day has won since and this does not look an overly strong nursery, so with Ethan Tindall taking off a useful 7lb, and having ridden two winners at Wolverhampton on Monday, the selection should go well.
5.00 Southwell – FIERY DAMSEL (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
There could be some dangers among the unraced quartet, while Slot and Bintola have runner-up finishes to their name, but the only winner in the field, FIERY DAMSEL, can back up that victory for the Crisfords. Fourth on debut over track and trip, she made the leap forward to win at Kempton next time out. There is actually a fair amount of stamina in her family, but 6f looked an ideal distance last time out and Jack Callan is able to negate 5lb of her 7lb penalty.
