This Thursday’s GG lucky 15 tips come across three cards in the UK and Ireland throughout the afternoon, with GG tipster Joe Napier including a tip from the Listed action at Thurles.
12.17 Thurles – APPRECIATE IT (1pt win – 11/4 Hills)
Conceding 10lb to the younger, more upwardly mobile Affordale Fury could be tricky, but the Grade 1 in which Noel Meade’s charge was second last time probably does not amount to much and APPRECIATE IT retains a large amount of his ability even at the age of 11. His form since being bogged down in heavy going on New Year’s Day is strong, winning the Grade 2 Horse & Jockey Hotel Chase, for which he is penalised here, over one furlong shorter at this track, then finishing second in Sandown’s Oaksey Chase behind Gaelic Warrior. He was beaten only five lengths by the recent John Durkan winner when under the maximum weight penalty and he is generally good fresh, while he retains the faith of Paul Townend ahead of younger stablemate Classic Getaway.
1.40 Taunton – MAXIMUM OFFERS (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
Jamie Snowden’s terrific form is not relenting and MAXIMUM OFFERS looks the right type to step forward from his hurdles form over fences. The six-year-old was a head second in a point-to-point over 3m in November 2023, but had enough ability to win a 2m good ground maiden at Huntingdon on his second hurdles start back in March. He was then second under a penalty at Newcastle upped to 2m4½f, but in that race, as well as his return at Uttoxeter, he raced as though even further would suit. This 2m7f distance may prove ideal for now and he has demonstrated he can jump a fence in the point sphere. A mark of 113 should be below him in time, and perhaps immediately.
2.15 Taunton – ELLERTON (1pt win – 7/2 bet365)
A winner on his debut for the yard at the end of last season, ELLERTON can make it two out of two for the Tizzard yard on his return. The five-year-old failed to win over hurdles for Syd Hosie, but his previous trainer appeared to find it difficult to find his trip, his last two races for him coming over 1m7f and 3m. However, Tizzard struck the middle ground, as he won over 2m4f at Wincanton at the end of March when well supported off a mark of 94. Brendan Powell appeared to be nursing him to success when he clattered the last, only for the selection to demonstrate how much was left in the tank by bursting clear once again. Up 7lb, he still looks well-treated, especially considering he is a 77-rated flat performer who goes well fresh.
2.25 Uttoxeter – TINTINTIN (1pt win – 8/1 generally)
Vanderpoel’s debut form could not have worked out better, but he was still beaten 25 lengths by the winner and this is a decent enough novices’ handicap. Overpriced in the betting is TINTINTIN for Fergal O’Brien, with the grey on a generous mark. He was fourth in both the Greatwood Hurdle and Imperial Cup last term, but has regularly done his best work late over 2m trips despite not yet having cut it over 2m4f. However, he remains worth persisting with, as it was likely a strong handicap in which he was seventh at Cheltenham on his reappearance and he has been eased a further 1lb, while his hurdling technique was never the best and may be improved upon over the larger obstacles.
