2.30 Bath – SIEGE OF TROY (1pt e/w – 4/1 generally)
Although stepping back up to Listed company here, there is no doubt this contest is weaker than the Ebor in which SIEGE OF TROY failed to land a blow for Johnny Murtagh. From stall 13 of 22, he failed to make any impact once unable to get beyond mid division early, but his previous third in Group 3 company over 1m4f at Leopardstown, as well as his fourth of 18 in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot, are strong highlights of his 2025 form. With favourite Term Of Endearment unreliable for win purposes and there otherwise being a dearth of proven form for a race of this nature, the selection looks very worthy of interest.
3.25 Ayr – MISTER SKETCH (1pt e/w – 9/2 bet365)
It looked as if MISTER SKETCH was going to be a one-season wonder, as, having enjoyed a highly promising two-year-old year in 2023, his form subsequently nosedived at three and had been slow to improve this year too. However, a promising run in Qatar back in March was a sign that his racing days were far from done and that “soft” needed to be in the going description; although his only win came on good as a juvenile, his form on good-to-soft or worse reads 2263 (the sixth coming in Group 3 company and one of the 2s in a Group 2), whereas there are plenty of duck eggs when soft is absent. His recent third of seven off this mark, beaten under a length, was on heavy, as is the likely going on Thursday, and he may well build on that most recent effort with his trainer in superb form of late.
3.55 Ayr – KINDEST NATION (1pt e/w – 4/1 bet365)
On a similar theme to the above, another handicap top-weight returning to form recently has been KINDEST NATION, just in time to potentially land her next start. The daughter of Sioux Nation’s two turf wins came on good-to-soft or slower, ground which she has only encountered twice this campaign, once when unable to get involved at Sandown in the midst of a slump, but most recently when third of 11 at Haydock. She was running on well at the finish that day having been short of room, and even softer going can see her finish strongly for an even better position here.
4.12 Bath – CAMZARA (1pt e/w – 9/1 bet365)
The three-year-old CAMZARA has been off for 102 days, but having run respectably on debut last season, and finished third of eight when returning at Newcastle earlier this term, she has shown she is perfectly capable of top form when fresh. Her standout run may have been her fourth at Wetherby on her third start behind a subsequent Listed scorer, with the third, only a length in front of her that day, now rated 90. She races here off just 71 after finishing down the field on her handicap bow, but that was over 1m4f on soft, whereas this will likely be on good-to-soft at slowest back to the 1m2f distance she faced at Wetherby. Those combined factors can see her competitive again.
