3.05 Punchestown – GLEN KILN (1pt win – 8/11 bet365)
Just nine days on from blowing a Grade 3 opportunity at the final flight, Brian Hayes can get redemption aboard GLEN KILN should the race be at his mercy this time. He was on the brink of cosily beating the 150-rated, Willie Mullins-trained Gaucher and this race’s conditions are even more generous, ensuring he is at least 8lb clear of the field adjusted for the weights. The six-year-old has improved immensely for joining David Harry Kelly and though his career has mostly been spent on soft ground or worse, he was on the verge of victory on good at Tipperary last week, while this 2m3f trip should suit him even better than the minimum 2m.
3.14 Leicester – JR CLIMBS (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
Good Banter got back to winning ways in a Wolverhampton seller last time out, but his form on turf is lacking compared to the all-weather. By contrast, JR CLIMBS prefers racing on grass and was second the last time he raced over 7f on good at Haydock in August. Subsequent runs on the soft at Chepstow and all-weather at Wolverhampton are forgiven, although the latter was a decent enough effort for this level when fifth, beaten just over two lengths, off a mark of 71. Back under what appear to be his favoured conditions, this could prove a makeable opportunity.
4.44 Leicester – SARAB STAR (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
Although a sizable field contests this handicap, the clear standout candidate is the unexposed SARAB STAR for Jack Channon in the Jaber Abdullah colours. The son of Zoustar is clearly well-regarded, going off at 8/11 on debut at Salisbury last year despite facing an already 88-rated rival, but was then last of six when faced with heavy going in Newbury’s Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes. However, he returned from 340 days off the track to win a novice event on Kempton’s all-weather in August under a penalty. Though he was again odds-on for that contest, he did it well from the front from a 78-rated rival he was conceding 5lb to; that effort also shows he can go from the front, which is a positive at Leicester, while stall 2 is a very positive draw in a field this size as well.
5.05 Lingfield – KINIRO (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
He may have failed to get the job done as favourite the last twice, but KINIRO has been knocking at the door and the return to Lingfield may be the final piece of the jigsaw. Having dropped down the weights this season, the selection was third of 11 in a class 4 event at Kempton in August before filling the same position last time out at Southwell at this level, both in newly-fitted cheekpieces. They have clearly made a positive difference despite him still racing keenly, but he has form figures of 13 over course and distance, with that third coming off a mark of 80 back in April, suggesting he is very well-in if recapturing that form off 75.
