Five tracks go racing across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday as GG tipster Joe Napier turns to Hereford and Wolverhampton for our Lucky 15 best bets throughout the afternoon.
12.50 Hereford – FOUR SPRINGS (1pt win – 6/4 bet365)
Kool Kid might well step forward with the Tizzard yard in such fine form, but he has been relatively uncompetitive in his two hurdle starts and preference is for newcomer FOUR SPRINGS for Ben Pauling. In the Radford colours of the same stable’s Handstands, he was purchased for E82,000 in May after winning a Necarne point-to-point by 22 lengths from a Walk In The Park gelding who was recently a very close third on his bumper debut at Newcastle. That form already having been proven under rules is a real positive for this four-year-old, who will definitely improve for further in time, but should have comfortably enough ability to feature in 2m novice hurdles this season.
2.00 Hereford – WISTMANS PRINCE (1pt win – 11/2 bet365)
Kerry Lee’s WISTMANS PRINCE pulled up few trees in bumpers, maidens and novice hurdles, but having returned from a summer break, the five-year-old was in the process of bolting up on his handicap debut wearing a first-time tongue tie when he came down at the last three weeks ago. That was over course and distance with him accelerating impressively from the final bend onwards, so it is fair to say the new headgear and his introduction to handicaps provided a new lease of life. He is up 8lb for that tumble, but he may well have won by 15 lengths or more and remains lightly-weighted in the same class here, so should be able to make amends.
2.35 Hereford – MAHLER MOON (1pt win – 11/2 bet365)
Favourite Copshill Lad needed every yard of this distance to win on his comeback last time out, so while a 2lb rise is not harsh for that victory, a reasonable alternative could be MAHLER MOON for Fergal O’Brien, who is at the foot of the weights here. The seven-year-old has never been the most consistent, but won on his second start after wind surgery in March in a 14-runner handicap at Newbury that would have been plenty competitive enough. Having again needed his first run after a break in October, he was second on his chase debut at this venue over 2m5f, bumping into one who could prove a fair improver this season for Nicky Henderson, but he was beaten only a little over two lengths and was 13 lengths and more clear of the rest. He could improve further for the step up to 3m1f on that evidence and may reach a higher grade over fences than hurdles.
5.30 Wolverhampton – AL ARBEED (1pt win – 5/1 generally)
Richard Hannon’s AL ARBEED has only had four career runs and the son of Night Of Thunder could claim what is likely the highest quality race on Tuesday. This 0-105 handicap is packed with three-year-olds capable of further progress, but the selection won on his debut on the all-weather at Southwell in March, then contested two strong conditions events at Newmarket and Goodwood, performing with a level of distinction each time without winning behind some talented rivals. He was fourth after 182 days off back at Southwell on Halloween, but was beaten only a little over a length without quite able to maintain his momentum into the final furlong. The drop back to 7s is a plus therefore, while the first two on his previous run have filled the same positions against each other since.
