2.45 Brighton – ROMAN SPRING (1pt win – 6/1 bet365)
Rachel Cook and John Bridger’s ROMAN SPRING has recorded his two career victories at Brighton and he will return to the south coast track on Tuesday to try and claim a third win in the 2.45pm contest. A narrow head winner over course-and-distance a week ago, the five-year-old will have a 5lb penalty to contend with, but this is a pretty mediocre renewal with plenty of out-of-form contenders taking their chance, so he has the potential to go in again.
3.00 Leicester – MADMAN (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
Fifth at Southwell on his last start, MADMAN found himself wide for most of that contest before he stayed on eye-catchingly well in the closing stages of that contest. Tom Ward’s charge will now look to improve on that effort when lining up at 3.00pm at Leicester and with the visor applied for the first time he could be worth taking a chance on in a wide open nursery event. Dropped 2lbs by the handicapper for that run, the maiden will be looking to make the most of a mark of 56 and if he can maintain a more prominent position in Tuesday’s event then he could well stay on the best to land the money.
3.07 Huntingdon – CARLTON (1pt win – 9/4 bet365)
James Owen’s CARLTON has been mixing flat and jumps in recent outings and was last seen claiming victory on the level at Chelmsford City. Now returning to the National Hunt scene for the 3.07pm at Huntingdon, the flourishing five-year-old will be looking to get his head in front over the sticks on Tuesday. He tired last time out over obstacles when sent over 2m 7f at Worcester, but a drop back to 2m 3f here should see him at his optimum distance and off a mark of 93 he should be able to make it back-to-back wins on the track.
4.07 Huntingdon – GETUPTHEYARD (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
Making a good impression on his first start over fences, GETUPTHEYARD came crashing down at the second last fence at Uttoxeter, but Nigel Hawke’s charge can bounce back with aplomb and claim victory in the 4.07pm at Huntingdon. Second on three of his previous four starts over hurdles, Hawke’s raider appeared to be taking well to the chasing game before that late fall, but providing it’s not left any mark then he can make the most of his current mark of 91 and record a first chase victory.
