3.14 Nottingham – EARTHWATCH (1pt win – 8/1 generally)
Gamrai is entitled to be a warm order for the 3.14pm at Nottingham have shaped with real promise at Epsom last time out, but he could be worth taking on with a value alternative in the shape of the William Haggas-trained EARTHWATCH. An impressive four-and-a-quarter length winner at Sandown two starts ago, the Earthlight gelding was given a monstrous 11lbs rise by the handicapper and he duly failed to score next time out when last of 16. However, he wasn’t given a hard time that day when beaten and stepping back up in trip here he could be a lively rival to the likely market rival. He will need to emulate that Sandown run to play his part, but he has shown he can produce the goods this season and is one to watch for sure.
3.35 Punchestown – BIRDIE OR BUST (1pt win – 5/4 generally)
This Grade 3 contest at 3.35pm could turn into a match between BIRDIE OR BUST and King Of Kingsfield, with the pair of them holding some solid form in the book. However, it’s the former for Henry De Bromhead that can strike gold here, as he showed when winning at Listowel on his last outing that he’s a smart chaser at a decent level. King Of Kingsfield is yet to produce his best form over fences having been a very smart hurdler, and it’s the JP McManus-owned Birdie Or Bust that can make it two wins on the bounce over fences on Wednesday.
3.44 Nottingham – GOOD SHOW (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
The hat-trick-seeking Darryll Holland-trained Senor Cortez looks the one to beat in the 3.44pm 2m contest at Nottingham, but it’s intriguing to see Andrew Balding’s GOOD SHOW drop down to class 4 and he could be of real interest. He’s been plummeting down the handicap recently and having been competing (finishing last) in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle in 2023, he’s now looking to get his confidence back in this event. Having had two years off the track he’s been struggling to figure in better races, but a mark of 81 looks appealing for a trainer in decent form, and with Oisin Murphy in the plate then he’s worth taking a chance on.
4.05 Punchestown – HEART WOOD (1pt win – 6/4 generally)
Second in both the Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse and the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, HEART WOOD has to be the one to side with a fascinating Grade 3 renewal of the BetVictor Chase at 4.05pm at Punchestown. Croke Park will have to give heaps of weight to all his rivals, so may struggle, while the Galway Plate winner Western Fold continues to improve, but may come unstuck here. That Ryanair second is top-class form over fences, and while he will be making his seasonal reappearance in this contest against the race-fit Western Fold, the De Bromhead charge has shown that he is the best of these on his day, so has to be backed in what should be a thriller.
