1.30 Worcester – CHIEF SUNDAY (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
A really progressive hurdler last season, the Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies-trained CHIEF SUNDAY unseated at the second fence at Perth on his chasing debut at the end of September, but the Naunton inmate is back to try and make amends in the 1.30pm at Worcester. He ended last season with two wins and two seconds to show his improvement over hurdles, but he now needs to show he can emulate that over fences. Obviously, his jumping will need to improve, but Worcester is certainly not the stiffest jumping test in the country and off a mark of 116 he looks more than capable of winning this event.
3.33 Newmarket – EXPLOSION (1pt win – 7/4 Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
Charlie Appleby’s Commanding Officer is looking to hand Toby Moore, son of the legendary jockey Ryan, his first winner under Rules in the 3.33pm at Newmarket, but the Godolphin raider could be vulnerable to Charlie Johnston’s EXPLOSION, who can land a third win in a row in this four runner event. Wins at Windsor and Chelmsford City during September has seen the Showcasing colt rocket to a mark of 87, but he shaped like he could still be better than that figure and looks a smart stayer for the future. A facile seven-length winner on his last outing, he’s open to significantly more improvement and has the potential to down the well-fancied Appleby charge here.
3.45 Worcester – FRENCH EMPEROR (1pt win – 10/1 bet365)
Nicky Martin’s FRENCH EMPEROR showed promise on his first couple of starts over hurdles back in November and December when raced over two miles. However, he struggled to land a blow when stepped up to two-and-a-half miles on his last outing at Newcastle in January, but he drops back to the minimum trip of two miles for the 3.45pm at Worcester. A relatively expensive Irish point-to-point recruit, he should improve for more experience, and he will have the burden of top weight here, but he’s capable of defying a mark of 108, if he can show decent fitness after nine months off the track.
4.08 Newmarket – MAYBE NOT (1pt win – 9/4 bet365)
Ralph Beckett’s MAYBE NOT has been a revelation this season having won three and finished second in her last five outings, and she can continue that fine form on Wednesday and taste more success in the 4.08pm at Newmarket. A narrow winner at Southwell on her last outing, she’s been given a 3lbs rise by the handicapper and she lines up here off a career high mark of 86 and top weight. But, the daughter of Pinatubo has shown a terrific attitude all season and has every capability of continuing her fine recent record and claiming another win.
