GG’s Lucky 15 centres on the jumps action on Wednesday, as our resident tipster Joe Napier has four selections all from Newton Abbot on the day.

1.23 Newton Abbot – GENTLEMAN TOBOOT (1pt win – 10/3 bet365)
Even in the face of an existing hurdles winner, GENTELMAN TOBOOT can prove the class horse in the race on his bow over timber. The son of Harzand won his only point-to-point in March 2024 then ran well in all three bumpers after joining David Pipe. He was third at this venue on his debut on heavy ground, following that up with an easy 16-length win at Fontwell next time out. He was defeated at odds-on at Chepstow most recently, but that was under a 7lb winners’ penalty behind another winner in the point-to-point sphere. He immediately goes up in trip for his first start over obstacles and has shaped as though possessing the requisite stamina.
2.23 Newton Abbot – QUANTOCK HILLS (1pt win – 3/1 bet365)
Having reached a fairly high level as a juvenile hurdler, QUANTOCK HILLS can prove an exciting chasing recruit for Warren Greatrex this campaign. The four-year-old is the youngest in the field here, but gets a 9lb weight-for-age allowance at this juncture which could prove crucial. He won twice last season, including in a dead-heat at Cheltenham in advance of taking on some heady assignments at the end of his campaign, namely the Grade 2 Triumph Hurdle Trial and the Fred Winter handicap at the Festival. He struggled in those contests, but was fifth in the novices’ handicap final at Sandown to conclude last season which is good form and a mark of 122 is fair for his chasing debut.
3.23 Newton Abbot – BUCKNA (1pt win – 7/2 bet365)
Another for Greatrex on Wednesday, BUCKNA struggled to win last season, remaining a maiden over hurdles, but he showed good form in the face of some talented opposition. Now that he faces handicaps for the first time, he could profit, while a debut over fences makes sense too given he was a point-to-point winner in March 2024. His second to the handy Sole Solution at Hereford in January stands out as his best form and he has looked at his best so far on ground quicker than soft, which he will get at this venue on Wednesday.
3.53 Newton Abbot – ON THE BAYOU (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
Harry Fry took this concluding bumper a year ago and ON THE BAYOU can ensure back-to-back triumphs for the yard. The five-year-old won a Castletown point in April 2024 and the runner-up is now rated 113 over hurdles in Ireland, with the prospect of rating comfortably better still. On The Bayou beat him tidily, has joined a good yard to progress under rules and Fry has won with two of his four runners over the past five days.
