I’m a huge Champ fan despite his tendency for madness! On his day he’s absolutely first class – albeit with some hairy moments. This is his game nowadays and in this company he’s a stand out. He goes well fresh and his record at Newbury is 4/5! He has Proschema to beat but I think Nicky Henderson’s boy will take some stopping, he’s reportedly in great form at home and raring to go.

Nicky Henderson unleashed Jonbon in this race last year, and could have a very smart one here with JET POWERED. He won his only run in a point-to-point and created a huge impression. He’s being talked about in very high regard around the yard and can get off the mark here.
It was difficult not to be taken by STAGE STAR’s debut over fences, and he’s touted for big things over the bigger obstacles. The grade 1 hurdle winner made all in fine style last time, and beat useful rival West Cork as he liked. He gets weight here from Beauport and will look to do the same. His jumping looks like it will be a huge asset and if he gets a soft lead, will take some pegging back.
Outsider: Soaring Glory (12.45 Newbury) – 7/1

SOARING GLORY is the stand out selection here given he’s the best horse over hurdles and goes into this with big expectations as a chaser. His record fresh is perch – 4 runs, 4 wins so you know he’ll be ready to go. He comes to the scene of his Betfair Hurdle and looks set for a big run.
