After a 20/1 winner the other day it’s been a lukewarm few days, but today’s racing is really exciting and for better or worse, we have betting interest in no less than eight races to kick the weekend off.

Comments:
Mistiroc & Pearl Castle – Jim Goldie’s Mistiroc turned a corner last time up at Ayr and ran right up to his mark of 88, staying on well in the closing stages. The step up in trip should suit, with previous outings over 12f not working out in his favour and he should run a nice race. Pearl Castle is having his first run for Karl Burke and is a horse with lots of ability. He has a bit to prove here but is a big price and Silvestre De Sousa doing the steering can only be a good thing at the moment.
Clever Cookie – I thought Clever Cookie ran a tremendous race in the King George. He was completely taken off his feet at championship pace over 1m4f, which isn’t his scene at all, but he stayed on really well up the home straight and could have gone around Ascot again. He comes out on top on the speed figures for me and I just think he has an outstanding chance of winning this horse race.
Fadhayyil & Toocoolforschool – Fadhayyil is being campaigned with her age and sex allowances firmly in mind this season and has the ability to make them tell in this company. Toocoolforschool is a bit of a forgotten horse here but loves York and could be a potent back-end of the season type. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him run a big race, despite a questionable draw.
Acapulco – Getting two stone from her rivals, with a stonking performance at Royal Ascot as her last piece of form, this brilliant 2yo filly has everything in place to win this race. It’s a deep contest with some of the best sprinters around coming here in terrific form, but the fact remains that if Wesley Ward’s inmate does anything like what she did at Ascot here today, then the weight she gets will see her through to victory; because none of her rivals have wings enough to deny that happening on official ratings at these weights.
Iffjack – Running well enough over 2m of late but is a big sort and seems to finish off well and should be suited to this step up in trip. I can see Carberry cajoling him into the contest for a late run and hopefully he can give the favourite something to think about.
Massini’s Trap – A talented horse on his day and stayed on very well over 2m5f at Galway last time out over hurdles and posted a good speed figure in the process. He steps back to 2m3f here but has plenty of pace too and with several of these having questions to answer, I think he can go close if bringing his A-game.
Defining Year – First inclination was to take this horse on, but opposition is low on the ground and with by far the best form in the book, he can get off the mark here.
Hard Fought – Been running well in defeat lately and battled on really well last time out having cut out all the running. Ruby gets the ride tonight and hopefully he can get the fractions right in a winnable contest.
