4.45 Newbury – ENTAILED (1pt win – 6/1 William Hill)
Flowerhead is entitled to be a prominent figure in the betting for the Listed St Hugh’s Stakes and she drops down from Group company for this contest. However, she could prove vulnerable to an improving performer and the one that catches the eye is the last-time-out winner ENTAILED, who can land the prize for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy.
A well beaten ninth on debut at Newbury back in mid-July over six furlongs, she relished the drop back to the minimum trip of five furlongs at Sandown on her last outing and she could be more than capable of leading her rivals a merry dance here. She was prominent throughout that contest and quickened away nicely to win by over a length. This is undoubtedly tougher, but she’s sure to continue to improve and warrants huge respect in a wide open renewal.
7.00 Newmarket – ELARAK (1pt win – 100/30 William Hill)
With two wins on the bounce at Lingfield Park and Newmarket, ELARAK returned to the latter looking to secure the hat-trick in a hugely competitive Listed contest. However, the Charles Hills-trained son of Kingman failed to land the three-timer and could only finish last of seven in what was a pretty hot race with the likes of Opera Ballo and Seagulls Eleven securing the first two spots.
A drop back into handicap company here should be a huge positive and off a mark of 98 he could be more than capable of getting back on the winning track before possibly targeting black-type company once again. He found himself behind for most of that recent outing, so if Jim Crowley can gain a more prominent position in Friday’s 7pm contest then he could kick clear in the closing stages and land the prize.
