We are set for a sensational week of top quality Flat racing at Glorious Goodwood next week, as the stars congregate on the south coast to bid for glory in some of the biggest races of the season. Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers takes a look at next week’s races and picks out some of his best ante-post selections for the meeting…

Tuesday 30th July – Lennox Stakes – English Oak @ 6/1
We could be set for one of the most competitive renewals of the Lennox Stakes in recent times on day one of the meeting. Currently at the head of the betting is Richard Hannon’s top class performer Haatem, while former champion Kinross and the classy Noble Dynasty add more depth to what could be a very deep race this season.
However, the one to side with is Ed Walker’s ENGLISH OAK, who was a stunning winner of the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Royal Ascot last month and the Wootton Bassett colt shaped every bit a Group performer during that win. Opting to stay over seven furlongs for this contest, Walker is expecting huge improvement from his four-year-old and the manner in which he quickened up at Ascot suggests there’s much more to come and he has to be the play in a cracking renewal.
Friday 2nd August – King George Qatar Stakes – Beautiful Diamond @ 25/1
Fresh from landing victory in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot, Australian speedster Asfoora could look to bag another sprint prize in the shape of the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Friday 2nd August. She will have a big challenger in the shape of proven Group star Big Evs and that pair dominate the ante-post betting for the 5f Group 2 prize.
George Boughey’s Believing is another notable contender and won the Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh last time out, but the one to keep an eye on from that race is Karl Burke’s BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND, who looks overpriced at 25/1 for this contest. A dual Listed winner at Ayr, the three-year-old will receive weight from all her rivals and the daughter of Twilight Son looks tailor-made for this speed test. Sure to be prominent from the outset, the speedy filly could be tough to catch in the closing stages and she can at least grab a place, if not challenge for victory.
Saturday 3rd August – Coral Stewards’ Cup – Fair Wind @ 16/1
Showing a sparkling turn of foot to win at Ascot last time out, FAIR WIND could be the type that excels in the Stewards’ Cup should Owen Burrows opt to step him up in trip. The four-year-old son of Tasleet has only been seen over five furlongs on the Flat and he’s rocketed up the ratings in recent times to become a classy sprint handicapper.
However, the manner in which he put the race to bed last time out suggested the step up to six furlongs shouldn’t pose any problems, and while he has a 6lbs penalty to carry in this event he looks a progressive sprinter that can land a significant blow. A winner at Goodwood in May, he’s one that could enjoy a return to the track and he looks a lively each-way play in what is sure to be a competitive renewal and at 16/1, at the time of writing is the standout ante-post pick.
