Glorious Goodwood has been a hugely enjoyable week for racing fans, with one more day to go at the festival. The Stewards’ Cup is the feature race, with punters tasked with finding a winner among a 28-strong field.
GG tipster Joe Napier has our lucky 15 tips for Glorious Goodwood day 5, with all four selections running at the meeting.
Goodwood Racing Tips (Saturday 1 August)
The final day of Glorious Goodwood features a pair of Group contests followed by the Stewards’ Cup. Joe has selections in all three of those races, plus one more to boot, for our lucky 15 tips from Goodwood.
2.25 Goodwood – Opportunity (1pt win – 3/1)
Al Aasy seeks a hat-trick in this race and the seemingly immortal nine-year-old may again prove the class act. There are plenty of dangers though, with the main one coming from his own house in Opportunity. William Haggas’ charge was hampered in Listed company at this track last year before a lengthy break to end 2025. He returned with a solid third of 14 at Ascot before back-to-back handicap wins. An 8lb rise for his Carlisle success in May did not stop him winning powerfully at Royal Ascot in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes. That was a commanding victory off a mark of 100, marking him as Group race quality, which he can show here upped in class.
3.00 Goodwood – Waardah (1pt win – 2/1)
This is a stronger renewal than the one Waardah won a year ago, but she too has progressed since. The daughter of Postponed won this as a three-year-old, marking her exceptional stamina for an inexperienced horse. Since then, she found Group 1 company too hot behind King George winner Kalpana on Champions Day last year, but chased home a talented yardstick in Estrange at Carlisle in May. That winner has since broken through at the highest level and the selection was a clear second that day. Back up in distance on ground that suits, she can defend her title before her own sights are raised.
3.35 Goodwood – Mitbaahy (1pt win – 14/1)
The seven-year-old Mitbaahy has drawn stall 25, which was the winning berth 12 months ago. That is a timely draw for the recent Group 3 runner-up, who is officially 3lb well-in here. He was a Group 2 scorer back in 2024, but saw a racecourse just once in 2025. He was understandably muted on return at Doncaster, but ran a belter when fifth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot off this mark. His second in Newbury’s Hackwood Stakes was a bold effort and this big field scenario should suit him with the draw likely to be in his favour. Expect he and Jamie Spencer to pounce late on the scene.
4.10 Goodwood – Startled (1pt win – 8/1)
Another chance is given to Startled, who started this season very strongly. Richard Hughes’ gelding was third on return at Lingfield before back-to-back successes at Newmarket and York. His Knavesmire triumph was remarkable given what happened to him in running and he backed up that positive impression with a clear second behind a handicap blot over course and distance later in May. He disappointed at Chester last time, but that race panned out awfully for him. This course evidently suits and while there are progressive types in this line-up, he remains of most interest.
