Race 1 – 1.20pm Goodwood – Coral Glorious Stakes (Group 3)

He is not the most convincing himself at times, but all of AL AASY’s rivals have even more questions to answer at present so the eight-year-old gets the vote. He won this race last year, as well as two Group 3s since, with his win in the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown earlier this term being particularly good form. He was below par at Newbury after, but was not disgraced in a strong renewal of the Hardwicke Stakes and that effort would be good enough to win this on recent evidence.

Race 2 – 1.55pm Goodwood – Coral Summer Handicap

An open 1m6f handicap with plenty holding chances. Some of Dancing In Paris’ form has been useful this term, while Sam Hawkens chases a hat-trick, but an intriguing one is ARTISTIC STAR, who has enjoyed stepping up to staying trips this season, with his fourth at Newmarket coming in a particularly strong race. His run when second over 2m last time was another solid effort in which he probably should have won and the slight drop back in distance should help him.

Race 3 – 2.10pm Newmarket – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Nursery Handicap

Having almost carried a penalty to success on her second career start, AWAAFI looks capable of winning on her nursery debut for Richard Fahey. She finished ahead of Ruby’s Angel at Haydock and is now 3lb better off with Hugo Palmer’s charge, while favourite Sayidah Hard Spun, despite having won a nursery already, only did so narrowly in a four-runner field and is now up 3lb.

Race 4 – 2.30pm Goodwood – Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2)

This looks an even renewal of this Group 2, especially with last year’s winner Term of Endearment unconvincing on her latest start. The unexposed WAARDAH makes most appeal after her Listed win over 1m2f here last time out. Her 2¾-length winning margin was merited easily and she has a stayers’ pedigree, suggesting this increase in distance will also suit. She has never run on any ground quicker than soft, but there should be some cut in the surface for her too.

Race 5 – 3.05pm Goodwood – Coral Stewards’ Cup

A compelling renewal of this handicap as ever. A value option who looks ready for the 6f trip is JAKAJARO, who has been caught out over 5f the last twice before staying on for sixth in two big-field handicaps. The strong impression he has left is that of a horse ready for this distance, so while he will still be played for luck in this scenario under Jamie Spencer, his form from Ireland, coupled with him gradually being brought back to form by Robert Cowell, gives him a shout of landing the Saturday feature.

15:05 Coral Stewards’ Cup (Heritage Handicap)

Race 6 – 3.20pm Newmarket – British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes (Listed)

Give she is the most open to improvement against rivals who have broadly fallen short at this level, preference is for SILENT LOVE for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin. The three-year-old has only run three times, winning on her latest start to get off the mark at Kempton after third-placed finishes at Newmarket and Haydock, but that win came after a slight increase in distance. She faces another extra furlong here and having stayed on strongly last time, she should be primed for this contest.

Race 7 – 3.45pm Goodwood – Whispering Angel Handicap

The very well-bred HEADMASTER should be set for big things at some point during his career despite having been gelded. He was second on his first two starts at Lingfield and Windsor, but easily got off the mark at 2/5 at Haydock last time out in the manner of a horse likely to go places. An opening handicap rating of 88 is probably generous, so even though he is up against fellow three-year-olds, he could have the most in hand.
