1.55 Goodwood – Coral Summer Handicap

He has not won since making it two from two at Sandown as a three-year-old but ARTISTIC STAR is down to a double-digit mark and there are three pieces of form which make him stand out for this contest.

The first was his fourth of six here in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes during his debut season when only beaten 4½ lengths over 1m4f. He has subsequently proven to be a stayer though, running well on his first start over this trip at Newmarket in May. He was fourth to Story Horse, who was then second in a strong race over course and distance next time out.

The runner-up has been second twice more, while the third has won since too. Artistic Star is now 2lb lower in the weights and probably should have won a four-runner event at Newbury last time out over 2m. However, 1m6f likely suits him better and he should be fine on this ground, so appeals plenty on an each-way basis.

3.05 Goodwood – Coral Stewards’ Cup

His form figures look uninspiring, but JAKAJARO has been running well in big fields throughout 2025 and the step back up to 6f could be the move that sees him over the finish line, even in a race as competitive as the Stewards’ Cup.

Since joining Robert Cowell from Ireland, he has competed twice in Group company in Dubai, running mid-pack on both occasions before first running on these shores. A below par effort at Windsor has been followed up by three runs at 5f, the first a close fifth at Newcastle, followed by two sixths in big-field handicaps.

The first was at Royal Ascot in which he could only get running too late, the second being earlier this week in similar circumstances. As long as still fit four days later, the move up to 6f should be a positive at this venue and his mark of 96 is one he can win off.

4.20 Goodwood – British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes

Isaac Newton has an obvious chance off the Ballydoyle pipeline, but an each-way shout is given to ISLAND BEAR for Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole’s yard. Their two-year-old has run in two good races so far and looks overpriced.

For one thing, having two runs already should stand him in good stead while cheekpieces may help him see this trip out fully too. His second on debut at Haydock came behind subsequent Group 2 Superlative Stakes third Wild Desert, with the winner of the Salisbury maiden he contested last time out also running well in that company earlier this week.

On that evidence, he has every chance of placing once again even in this strong contest, as it is also likely he progressed between his first and second races.

4.55 Goodwood – Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap

The last two performances on turf from INDALO suggest that Roger Varian’s lightly-raced four-year-old could easily still be on the up and he is taken to round out Glorious Goodwood week with a win.

The son of Phoenix Of Spain scored on his first two starts at Newcastle, but too much time between his races saw him fall short on his next two starts, the second of which was his handicap debut off a mark of 84. However, he then finished second at Hamilton over this trip and has improved again since.

A fourth on the all-weather at Chelmsford in between was nothing special, but on his return to grass, he won comfortably at Sandown and a 5lb rise would not look too harsh on that evidence.
