Goodwood Tips (Tuesday 8th September 2026)
Seven races take place at Goodwood on Tuesday, with the action getting under way at 1.30pm. Here are the best bets for the day at the south coast track.
3.15 Goodwood – U S S Charleston (1pt win – 6/1)
Given plenty to do at Chester last time out, U S S Charleston has been dropped 1lb for that third placed finish, so a mark of 77 looks feasible for the Lemos Souza-trained raider. He ran a career best on his last visit to Goodwood, where he finished second to Naana’s Shadow in a red-hot handicap during the Goodwood Festival. This looks much easier on paper, so if he can replicate that run on a return to the track then he looks the one to beat.
3.50 Goodwood – Manxman (1pt win – 13/8)
A winner over course-and-distance last year, Manxman is only 2lbs higher for Tuesday’s 3.50pm contest, so the Simon & Ed Crisford-trained can land the prize in style. Fifth in a hugely competitive stayers’ handicap at York last time out, he will find this level of opposition a little easier. With stamina assured, and with William Buick in the saddle, he’s the one they all have to beat and he can down Sir Mark Prescott’s Synergism, who adds more depth to the race.
4.25 Goodwood – Decalogue (1pt win – 4/1)
Winless in six starts, Decalogue has continued to improve with every run and Tuesday’s contest could prove to be a Red Letter day for the Jamie Osborne-trained runner. A career best second at Salisbury last time out he was no match to the winner that day, but did beat the rest of the line up. He remains on the same mark of 69 for this competitive 1m 1f 197y contest and if he can continue to improve again then looks sure to be thereabouts for this event.
Catterick Tips (Tuesday 8th September 2026)
A bumper eight-race card takes place at Catterick, with the action beginning at 1.53pm. We have one selection at the North Yorkshire track that completes the Lucky 15.
3.36 Catterick – Kings Merchant (1pt win – 11/2)
Kings Merchant may have the burden of top weight in the 3.36pm at Catterick, but Phil Kirby’s charge is one of the more consistent performers in the field. He’s only 2lbs higher than his last winning mark, where he prevailed at Chester. However, he has run well before at Catterick, so is entitled to be respected here. Plenty line up with a notable chance, but Kings Merchant has to be one of the most likely winners in the line-up.
