Goodwood Racing Tips (Saturday 29 August 2026)
Andrew bookends the Saturday card at Goodwood with selections in the first and final races at the meeting.
1.25 Goodwood – Majestic Flame (1pt win – 9/4 generally)
I hope some of you availed yourselves of the 3-1 and 11-4 about Majestic Flame when I napped her on GG’s Weekend Watch on Thursday and for those who didn’t there’s still juice in the current 9-4 (I make her a 7f shot). She ran a blinder on her debut in a 7f Class 2 fillies’ maiden at Glorious Goodwood, doing best of the newcomers in a 66-1 sixth of 13 and the eight horses from that race to have run since produced fours wins (including from the runner-up, third and fourth) and four in-the-frame efforts. Juvenile progeny of her sire Pinatubo have a solid record at the second time of asking, especially over trips of 7f-1m, and she could prove hard to beat. The Gary and Josh Moore-trained Cloud Chorus also debuted in that Glorious Goodwood contest, finishing last of the 13 runners (66-1), but can also be expected to take a big step forward and I’ll be having a tiny each-way interest.
4.55 Goodwood – Naana’s Sparkle (1pt win – 11/2 Betway, Paddy Power, 5/1 generally)
There’s loads of early pace om this 5f handicap and, if the track is riding like it was here last night, we can expect the winner to come from off the pace. The runner most likely to be ridden patiently is the Lemos De Sousa-trained Naana’s Sparkle who was described as “raced centre. Midfield” when mid-division from a difficult draw at York’s Ebor meeting. The four-year-old was just pipped over C&D in a hot Class 2 handicap at Glorious Goodwood and the recent rain won’t be an issue.
Sandown Racing Tips (Saturday 29 August 2026)
Four races are screened from Sandown on ITV on Saturday. Andrew’s tip at the track runs in race two.
2.15 Sandown – Stem (0.5pt e/w – 11/1 BetVictor, 10/1 Coral, both four places)
Stem had excuses in the Shergar Cup last time (saddled slipped) and will appreciate the recent rain when he returns to Sandown and the course and distance of his latest success for the 1m2f Class 2 handicap on Saturday. Richard Hannon’s four-year-old has only had two runs over tis trip in Britain, with the other resulting in a 14-1 runner-up effort to the Haggas-trained Crown Of Oaks at about this time last year. The winner was rated 85 that day and was subsequently rated as high as 104.
Cartmel Racing Tips (Saturday 29 August 2026)
There is a six-race card live from Cartmel on Saturday. Andrew has a tip from the Cumbria course, in race five.
4.25 Cartmel – Tanking Along (1pt win – 3/1 generally)
The front-running Tanking Along, sent off as the 9-4 second choice for a 2m4f Class 5 handicap chase at Perth 107 days ago when we last saw him, looked to have the race in the bag when travelling best three out and traded at 1.21 in running. However, Patrick Neville’s seven-year-old hung sharply left on the run-in and was passed by Sir Carnegie. This run took his record on right-handed tracks to P56262 (0-6) and he’ll much happier not returned to a left-handed venue.
