Leg 1: 1.20pm – Coral Kincsem Handicap

Leg 1 Selections: (3) Calla Lagoon

A narrow winner of an Ascot maiden on his second start, Calla Lagoon was then sent into Listed level for his next couple of starts, and having finished second in the Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract he then went and finished fourth in the Dee Stakes at Chester. Ralph Beckett’s charge will certainly enjoy the drop back into handicap company here and off a mark of 96 can get the better of the top-weighted Best Secret, who looks to be the biggest danger, but may struggle to give 4lbs to the selection.

13:20 Coral Kincsem Handicap

Leg 2: 1.55pm – Markel Richmond Stakes

Leg 2 Selections: (5) Havana Hurricane, (9) Underwriter

It’s a really wide open renewal of the Richmond Stakes at 1.55pm, so it’s wise to head into the 6f Group 2 race with a couple of darts and the first of those can be Eve Johnson Houghton’s Havana Hurricane. An emphatic winner of the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot, he just failed to get his head in front in the closing stages of the Weatherbys Super Sprint, but that is decent form. The step up to six furlongs should be ideal here and he’s certainly a Placepot banker, as he will be storming home late on to place. A winner at Ayr on debut, Underwriter was then last in the Coventry Stakes at Ascot, but bounced back to form with a win at Ayr on his third start. Returning to Group company again, he will need to show his Ayr form again here, but he’s a classy juvenile on his day and has to be respected.

13:55 Markel Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings)

Leg 3: 2.30pm – HKJC World Pool Gordon Stakes

Leg 3 Selections: (2) Merchant

A pretty weak renewal of the Gordon Stakes at 2.30pm leaves the door wide open to Merchant, who heads into the race on the back of an authoritative victory in the King George V Stakes Handicap at Royal Ascot and the William Haggas-trained three-year-old can step up into Group company with aplomb. A classy one-length winner back in June, the Teofilo colt was heavily backed in the lead-up to the race and defeat was never in sight as he bounded to glory. The likes of Rahiebb and Wimbledon Hawkeye will be the main dangers, but both have struggled to get their heads in front of late, so stick with the upwardly mobile Merchant for race three.

Leg 4: 3.05pm – Qatar Nassau Stakes

Leg 4 Selections: (5) Whirl

We may only have five runners in the Nassau Stakes at 3.05pm, but it’s a really fascinating contest with some exciting three-year-olds taking on the older horses in the Group 1 feature of the day. The stand-out three-year-old looks to be Oaks runner-up Whirl for Aidan O’Brien, who was last seen landing the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh. Her biggest danger will be See The Fire, who was a stunning winner at York two starts ago before she found the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes a bridge too far. Taking on her own sex will certainly make it easier, but Whirl has shown she relishes a battle on the track and receiving weight the Ballydoyle filly can prevail narrowly in a thriller.

15:05 Qatar Nassau Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares)

Leg 5: 3.45pm – Buccellati Handicap

Leg 5 Selections: (2) The Man, (8) Brosay

A three-year-old five furlong sprint is the penultimate race in the Tote Placepot on Thursday and it’s a devilishly difficult punting assignment. So, opt for a few selections in this race to try and make it through to the final leg. The first one to stick in the perm is The Man, who bounded to a taking York victory for Richard Spencer last time out, and while an 8lbs rise is a tough ask he was a clear winner that day and has to be respected here. Brosay is the other and with a course and distance victory to his name from last season then he’s one that has shown he relishes the idiosyncratic nature of the track.

Leg 6: 4.20pm – Phase Eight Nursery

Leg 6 Selections: (5) Sir Albert

Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy will look to team up for more success in the 4.20pm nursery and the hat-trick-seeking Sir Albert looks to be a solid option. He followed a win at Newcastle with a victory at Chester and whilst he’s been given a 4lbs rise for that success on the Roodee the mark of 84 still looks workable. He will need to improve again in this tougher race, but heading to Goodwood in the form of his life, the No Nay Never colt can make it three wins on the spin here.
