Great Yorkshire Chase Tips, Odds, Racecard & Trends - Doncaster Handicap Analysis from GG

The 2026 Great Yorkshire Chase will be run on Saturday, providing an excellent accompaniment to the action at Cheltenham on Trials Day.

The big Doncaster handicap has attracted a decent field too, with a number of prospective staying chase stars lining up. We preview the contest below, analysing the runners, giving you the key trends to look out for before making a bet, and also giving our verdict on the race.

2026 Great Yorkshire Chase Runners

Top-weight Deep Cave has had a tremendous career resurgence for Christian Williams, winning three races on the bounce, including his first two chases of this season. He won with a brilliant late surge at Ascot in a very close finish most recently, but only has a 2lb rise, unlike Grand Geste, who incurred a 10lb penalty for a facile success at Haydock. For Sue Smith & Joel Parkinson, the seven-year-old could be another staying chaser on the up.

Docpickedme is something of a Doncaster specialist and will likely make a bold bid to defend the title he won last year, while the novices Dartmoor Pirate and Josh The Boss, as well as recent Newbury winner King’s Threshold, offer further depth to what should be a hard-fought edition of the Great Yorkshire Chase.

Great Yorkshire Chase Tips

Despite a 10lb rise for his Haydock success, Grand Geste won that race so impressively with a great display of jumping and could comfortably defy the handicapper’s Vengeance here. This will be tougher though, especially as the in-form Deep Cave escapes a tough penalty for his last-gasp Ascot win in December, while King’s Threshold is also in the mix, as despite his best recent form coming at Newbury, he has won elsewhere and on soft ground before.
