Haydock’s Sprint Cup meeting begins on Thursday, with two days’ worth of racing before the Group 1 card on Saturday. There are six meetings taking place in all on Thursday, with Salisbury hosting Group race actrion.
GG tipster Joe Napier picks out our lucky 15 tips across the card, with one selection from Haydock and a trio from Salisbury.
Haydock Racing Tips (Thursday 3 September)
Seven races take place at Haydock, with one of our lucky 15 tips running in race four.
3.17 Haydock – Green Titan (1pt win – 4/1)
George Boughey won this nursery three years ago and can do again with Green Titan. The Lope Y Fernandez colt showed mixed form in maiden and novice company. The one standout display came at Salisbury when second on good-to-soft ground over 6f. That was the run which earned him an opening handicap rating of 69. Off that mark, he was a close fourth at Wolverhampton after a gelding operation. That was a good effort over 6f and gave hope that 7f will suit better. His experience on rain-softened ground should augur well here, especially as it aided his best effort to date. He will surely win races and this can be the first.
Salisbury Racing Tips (Thursday 3 September)
Salisbury host the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes on Thursday. One of our three selections at the track contests that Pattern contest.
4.14 Salisbury – Miss Kodi (1pt win – 3/1)
Nuit d’Eclair was caught late on in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes over 7f. She may profit back at 6f, but stern opposition awaits in the shape of Miss Kodi. Clive Cox’s filly was half-a-length behind Nuit d’Eclair at Ascot on the pair’s penultimate race. However, the selection arguably has the strongest piece of form now, having finished fourth in York’s Group 2 Lowther Stakes since. She was behind the very talented Libertango that day, but her effort can be upgraded as she raced with the pace in a contest dominated by those ridden patiently. There was cut in the going there, as there was when she won on debut by seven lengths at Chepstow. A Group race breakthrough awaits here.
4.49 Salisbury – Zen Diva (1pt win – 5/2)
Zen Diva’s three wins this season have been so impressive that her disappointment at Glorious Goodwood can be overlooked. Ralph Beckett’s filly was winless in three starts as a juvenile. However, she twice made the frame, then won by seven lengths on return at Ripon. She followed that up with a 5½-length success over course and distance on handicap debut. That preceded her blowout at Goodwood, but she returned to track and trip to impress even more. She won by a startling ten lengths two weeks ago. She is up another 10lb because of that margin of victory. Her ceiling is unclear though, and it may well not have been reached yet.
5.55 Salisbury – Leonardo Blu (1pt win – 12/1)
It might be worth chancing rank outsider Leonardo Blu in the Salisbury finale. Tom Clover has struck with four of his last 13 runners, and his charge has run consistently in all four career starts. His second on debut was followed by a game win at Nottingham over 1m½f. There was no fluke about that success and he now receives 4lb from the runner-up having beat him off level weights that day. Said runner-up, Lucky Camino, has franked the form since, while the selection was then fourth over to short a trip at Windsor, then eighth in a hugely competitive three-year-old only handicap at Glorious Goodwood. He ran better than the bare result that day and is down 2lb. He also drops back to 1m2f from 1m3f, which should suit. He should at least outrun his odds in this company and could well go close.
