SCOPE has shaped with plenty of promise in Group company the last twice despite being given far too much to do. Those tactics may pay here at Ascot, which eats front runners alive, and the likely soft ground certainly swings things in his favour over his market rivals who are both unproven under such conditions.
This is far easier than his St Leger assignment last time, and he is completely unexposed as a stayer. He looks one to keep on side, and this is a big drop in class.

DREAM COMPOSER – (3.40 Ascot, 1pt each-way, 14/1)
There’s a good bit of rain due today, and that will enhance the chances of DREAM COMPOSER, who remains very well handicapped on this season’s form, notably his 4th here behind Significantly at the Royal meeting.
The winner is now 13lbs higher, the second is 7lbs higher, the fifth is 7lbs higher, and he did best of those from the rear of the field and is now 2lbs lower. He can be forgiven his run at the Shergar Cup meeting when ridden too prominently by an inexperienced rider, and he wasn’t seen to best effect from off the pace at Chelsmford last time. Back at Ascot and back on soft ground, as well as this more suitable trip of 6f should see him in a better light.

IBIZA ROCKS (NAP) – (4.50 Ascot, 1pt each-way, 22/1)
A chance is taken on IBIZA ROCKS, who I really fancied last time at Leicester after chasing home a twice subsequent winner at Sandown who has recently scored in a Listed event and is now 17lbs higher in the handicap.
The fourth from that event has scored since, so his run at Leicester last time has to be too bad to be true. He looks worth another chance given his unexposed profile, and he could be well suited with cut in the ground from a good draw in stall 17.
