TULFARIS (1.55 Ascot, 1pt win 7/2)
This is a tricky race and predictably the unexposed handicap debutant is at the head of the market so it’s worth taking a chance on TULFARRIS who likes it here at Ascot with course form figures of 2220 (the latter coming in the Britainnia when not granted the best of passages).
He gets a first-time visor after a lacklustre display in the Cambridgeshire last time out but with the ground likely to deteriorate with heavy rain due he will be one of few that have proven form on soft ground and over course and distance.
His form figures on soft ground read 23 but his best form in France back in 2018 came on a softer surface and he is lightly raced for a four-year-old and gets the services of Hayley Turner who rides this course excellently well.

HIGHWAY ONE O ONE (2.10 Fontwell, 1pt win 6/1)
NO bet on Cobra De Mai here despite being a horse to follow for the season, the rain may put pay to his chances and it’s highly likely this will be a prep spin for something bigger so HIGHWAY ONE O ONE is recommended.
The break is likely to have done him the world of good after his form tailed off in three runs last season after a hard race when third at Kempton. He goes well fresh with form figures of 112 after a break of 145 days or more and is down to his last winning chase mark of 140 and over a more suitable trip is one of few in here who has mileage in their handicap marks.
BACK HIGHWAY ONE O ONE HERE AND GET UP TO £30 IN FREE BETS
AZZERTI (2.10 Fontwell, 1pt win 14/1)
The other is AZZERTI who won first time out last season and trainer Alan King can ready one first time up and he is 2lb lower than that victory last term. Connections are persistent to try him over 3m but this trip might be better suited. He is a winner on soft ground and with the weather forecast as it is he should be in the thick of things at the business end.

TIGER CRUSADE (3.05 Ascot, 1.5 pts win 4/1)
A few of these wont handle the ground and it is an unknown for TIGER CRUSADE but he is by far the best handicapped horse in the field and he is hard to get away from.
He was caught too far back over course and distance when last seen finishing third but the winner is now rated 17lb higher and the second is rated 2lb higher and a winner in waiting so there is surely more to come from the selection off a mark of 87 on the balance of his form.

FRESH (4.50 Ascot, 1pt win 8/1)
FRESH is one of two I will play here and I have always thought would benefit from a step up in trip to 7f but the rain that is due to fall may just make this stiff 6f into a stamina test that he wants.
He is clearly well handicapped on a few pieces of form and has similar claims to King’s Lynn with a form line through Starman but is a bigger price and receives 6lb from that one.
He was given a poor ride at Doncaster last time when held up and given far too much to do and it would be folly not to follow this unexposed three-year-old through.

ROVANIEMI (4.50 Ascot, 1pt win 12/1)
Talking of following through you must be sick of me talking about ROVANIEMI but I am convinced he is better than this mark of 82 and he wants one of two things, a drop back to 6f as he gets today or a marked step up in trip to 1m2f.
It’s a risky bet but he is a big double-figure price here and his form is not far off those at the top of the market so a chance is taken.
