ALFLAILA – (1.40 Doncaster, 0.5pt each-way – 11/1) (4 place, Betfair)
ALFLAILA was an unlucky second for us behind a subsequent winner at York when drawn wide in stall 16 and forced to come down the unfavoured side of the track. That was another improved performance, and I didn’t think Jim Crowley rode him to full effect in the closing stages.
That was a handicap, so a step forward will be required in this company, but we have hardly scratched the surface with this horse’s ability. He fairs up very well in terms of a time figure performance with those at the top of the market, and his experience will hold him in good stead here.

RIBHI – (1:40pm Doncaster, 1pts win – 9/2)
RIBHI impressed me when bolting up on debut from one I thought at the time was a good thing. On reflection, I was wrong, but the time figure of the performance was faster than anything else on the card, and there was significant promise for 7f in the performance.
He didn’t know his job but devoured the ground in the closing stages to win going away, and the winners roll call of that race gives confidence that he could turn out to be pretty smart, especially given only one horse has recorded a higher RPR in the last six years.

THE ORGANISER – (2.10 Doncaster, 0.5pt each-way – 8/1)
Armor will be tough to beat, but THE ORGANISER has offered plenty of promise and the drop back to five furlongs looks a good move given the way he travels through a race.
He was a big eye-catcher in the Group 2 July Stakes (a race that has worked out very well) when he was denied a clear run and then caught late under a penalty at Salisbury over 6f. This trip looks well worth a go now, and he could be a surprise package.

DUBAI LEGACY – (2.30 Sandown, 1pt win – 17/2)
DUBAI LEGACY ran well from off the pace at Newmarket last time and was the only horse able to get involved on his first start back on turf on UK shores since September 2019, and the bare form of that race is levels above his opponents today.
This is a drop in grade into class 3 company for the first time since scoring at Newcastle off a handicap mark of 97 back in 2019. He is very lightly raced for a five-year-old, and he is 1lb below his last winning mark, which came at Newmarket in Sept 2019.
He goes well at this time of year with form figures in September of 313, and today’s stiff finish will play to his strengths. Ray Dawson is a positive booking with a 42% strike rate, and this is the yards, sole runner, on the card.

AL RUFAA – (3.00 Sandown, 1pt win – 11/2)
AL RUFAA could barely get into the race at Goodwood on his reappearance run after 336 days off the track and didn’t look entirely at home on the downhill run. There’s good reason to think that run can be upgraded given his early excursions, and he did have a tough task from stall 9.
He shaped with plenty of promise, though and gave the impression that next time may be the time to catch him. This stronger test of stamina on a more conventional track should play to his strengths, and the handicapper has given him back 2lbs for that run in what was arguably a stronger race than this one.

NATIONAL LEAGUE – (3.25 Chester, 1pt win – 8/1)
NATIONAL LEAGUE had little chance at Chester last time from stall 11, so the fact that he finished within three lengths of the winner that day was a credit to him. Add in the fact that once he got going down the centre of the course he was denied a clear run and finished with running left it was a big performance and a step in the right direction, and that leaves him very little to find with today’s favourite Revich.
That one was well-positioned. Drawn much better today in stall five; he has every chance of scoring in this contest.

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD – (3.45 Doncaster, 1pt each-way – 13/2)
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD was unlucky for us at Thirsk, having been denied a clear passage before running on at the finish, and that was enough to signal he is ready to go in. He has fallen 1lb below his last winning handicap mark, and this 6 1/2 furlong trip looks tailor-made for his run style, so he could be the answer to a tricky handicap.

GEORGIO VASARI – (3:45pm Doncaster, 0.5pt each-way – 100/1)
It’s worth a small saver on GIORGIO VASARI, who I fancied for the Silver Trophy at Ripon until he pulled out with a vets cert. He is a wild price here, but he ran well on his first start for this yard without getting seriously involved on the aw behind a progressive rival.
He was only beaten four lengths under an easy ride there and switches back to turf today with a first-time visor. He scored for his former yard in first-time blinkers over a 6 1/2 furlong trip and was thought enough of to contest a Group 1 as a two-year-old. Highly tried in Group company toward the end of this two-year-old season, he then failed to run a race when fitted with the tongue-tie in two starts earlier this year, but it was a step in the right direction at Chelmsford he is worth a speculative punt.
