AUKLAND LODGE – (4.35 Catterick, 1pt win – 11/2)
There is so much pace on in this race it may be dangerous to side with a front runner, but I still want to take a chance on the AUKLAND LODGE, who is drawn well in stall 3 (next to other front runners) and is too well-handicapped to ignore. Granted, it wasn’t a great performance last time at Pontefract, but that did come in a Class 5 race, and things didn’t fall right for him having to fight for an early position from a wide draw.
At this level, you need to be forgiving, but he is now 13lbs lower than his last winning handicap mark, which came at this course, and a return to Catterick may see him in a better light. He is 2-2 at the course and has only had two goes in class 6 company, with one of those coming after a 247-day break when in need of the run. The other was his penultimate start when putting in his best effort of the season at Hamilton. He may be worth taking a flyer on.

PINBALL WIZZARD – (4.50 Windsor, 0.5pt each-way – 8/1)
Coco Beach is feared should he back up his recent Brighton win, but Clive Cox may have found PINBALL WIZZARD’S trip now, and he is worth siding with of this very low handicap mark of 59. He is bred to be much better than this, and it was a good step in the right direction last time despite throwing away his chance to shed his Maiden tag by hanging left. The blinkers go on for the first time today, and he is unexposed on turf, and he could have more to offer for a trainer who knows how to win here.

MEDIA GUEST – (4.50 Windsor – 0.5pts each-way – 11/1)
MEDIA GUEST is the other I want to take a small chance on. He shaped with plenty of promise as a two-year-old in two runs on soft ground but was crying out for a sounder surface. He has been beaten on turf by horses rated 104, 81 and 82, and this opening handicap mark of 72 now gelded could underestimate him considerably. He can be easily forgiven his no show on the all-weather back in April prior to gelding after racing too keenly and far too wide. He could be better than this grade and is drawn well to grab a prominent position.

TALL ORDER – (6.25 Windsor, 1pt win – 11/8)
TALL ORDER has given firm indications that he has talent, including on seasonal return at Leicester, and he should take a step forward from that run today. The form of his two runs to date looks strong in the context of this race. He chased home Belloccio, Aleas and Mohaafeth on debut at Salisbury, horses, rated 98, 103 and 112 and was the eye-catcher in the race.
He was given far too much to do at Leicester last time and finished strongly to chase home Marching Army doing best of those from the rear of the field, and the race has seen the third score twice since, while the fourth came into the race with some strong back form. He can get the better of the Stoute horse, who will improve with age.
