It’s certainly worth keeping the faith with POP THE CORK and he was much better than the finishing position suggests last time at Wetherby and he just failed to see out the longer trip in dire conditions. That contest was a 0-140 and today he is back into a 0-120 due to the 2lb drop for that run and the drop back in trip on this testing ground will see him to best effect. He is well handicapped on the whole and the time figure he clocked at Weherby on seasonal return was strong for the grade so he gets the vote to finally get his head back in front.

Another chance is given to BLAME THE GAME who disappointed at Ascot over the longer trip and now drops back to a more suitable distance. That race has worked out well and he is a horse on the up and returns to the scene of his last victory and on the balance of his Novice form he is well treated off this opening mark of 115. On paper this race is much weaker than his last assignment and he should take some stopping with a soft lead looking likely.
