HONORARY COLONEL took a big step forward from his Ffos Las bumper run over course and distance back in November when third behind Fancy Foundations and Hoi Polloi. That race recorded the fastest time figure on the card and given he did best of those ridden prominently his effort can be upgraded. The front three pulled miles clear of the field and all look to be useful prospects going forward and this doesn’t look as strong of a race on paper. He is entitled to improve on that run and despite the winner being beaten next time out (had excuses) and he looks good value at the prices.

BIG NASTY (2.40 Doncaster, 1pt each-way 15/2)
BIG NASTY made an encouraging return to action when third at Wetherby and is entitled to build on that now tackling further than 3m for the first time in his career. He has shaped on multiple occasions that this extreme test would suit and he is one of the less exposed runners in the field after just five chase starts so his profile is more appealing than most. This powerful staying chaser offers excellent each way value over those at the top of the market who have yet to really suggest this is extreme trip is what they want.

ENDLESSLY (2.50 Hereford, 0.5pts each-way 8/1)
The Mick Preston could prove well handicapped but his jumping out to the left won’t do him many favours on this sharp track so is worth taking on. ENDLESSLY takes a significant drop in grade here and showed up well on seasonal return in a hot Conditional Handicap at Cheltenham off a mark of 125 and was better than the bare result after being badly hampered by a faller. The deep ground and one of the strongest handicaps of the season didn’t see him to best effect when stepped up in trip at Haydock. The 0-150 again over 2m4f here at Hereford was riddled with well handicapped horses but he was travelling the best before a bad error two out as he made his move stopped all progress and in a race that turned into a sprint it was hard to pick back up. Today’s race is much weaker on paper and the drop back to 2m for which he is 2/4 makes him of significant interest. The handicapper has relented dropping him 7lbs in three runs this term and his two Novice Hurdle wins suggest he is up to winning a race off this mark of 118 so gets the vote.
