Not a race I would usually have a bet in, but trainer Sheena West has an excellent 43% strike rate at Nottingham, and she is also the trainer to travel the furthest to this venue with this her sole runner.
LIMELIGHTER was much better than the bare result at Lingfield last time, doing best of those held up from an unpromising position, and he shaped as though he was coming to the boil. This looks to have been the target for connections, and the first time cheekpieces are an intriguing ingredient, so a chance is taken.

SANDY B (1.35 Ayr, 0.5pts each-way 66/1)
This could quite easily be throwing away money on SANDY B given she has shown next to nothing in three starts thus far, but her yard has won this race four times in the last five years, and at huge odds, it may be worth having a couple of quid each-way regardless.
It’s interesting that connections keep the faith and, given the unpredicatbility of fillies at this level, not much excuse is needed to back one at 66/1.

SO SMART (1.55 Nottingham, 2pts win 10/3)
SO SMART looked a potential next time improver when last seen at Newbury, and the race could hardly have worked out better. He was denied a clear run at a crucial stage in the race but certainly showed enough to win a race like today’s.
That Newbury race has already bagged this column a couple of winners, including the Coventry Stakes winner, and it’s worth keeping that form line on side.

MYRISTICA (3.40 Nottingham, 1pt win 5/1)
MYRISTICA failed to see out the new trip last time and, before that, likely found the run coming too soon at Pontefract behind a useful improver.
A return to this venue for which she scored at off a 5lb lower mark looks a good move by connections, and the form of that race, as well as her seasonal return here, looks good. She clearly likes it here, and Silvestre De Sousa on board is a big positive. First-time cheekpieces are entitled to bring out a bit more, so is the offering over the well-found market leader Big Boy Bobby.

LEOPARDO (8.00 Ripon, 1pt win 11/1)
This is a race where the short-priced fav has plenty of questions to answer, and LEOPARDO was better than the bare result on his return from a poor spell in Meydan when beaten six lengths at Newmarket.
He failed to handle the track there, but that was a deep race for the grade, and he is entitled to improve now back on these shores. His form on the all-weather as a two-year-old looks particularly strong in the context of this race, and he looks hugely over-priced, providing it doesn’t turn into a bog.
