You can make cases for most in this field and this is a cracking race to kick off ITV racing but I can’t help but feel SHELDON is over-priced now into a handicap and 11lbs better off with Karl Philippe for a 10 length defeat at Exeter. The winner did that well, but the selection ran on the inside rail on the worst of the ground in mid-pack and attempted to give the runaway leader a penalty. He was the only one able to go a chase down the winner before tiring late on so on these terms and on better ground he is worth siding especially given he hasn’t had a race run to suit as of yet and is still unexposed. A mark of 122 is certainly lenient and he should be playing a hand in a race that has advantageous place markets (5).

Mums Tipple – (2.05 Wolverhampton, 2pts win – 4/1)
MUMS TIPPLE has some high-class back form and although his three-year-old season was somewhat of a write off he looked better than ever when reappearing at Lingfield. The step up to 7f looks right up his street especially given he finished with any amount of running last time out over 6f and he is entitled to improve again for that run so gets a confident vote in a trappy heat.

Voyage De Retour – (3.27 Hereford, 1pt win – 7/1)
This is not a deep race and its interesting that connections quickly switch VOYAGE DE RETOUR to fences on his second start for the yard. He caught the eye on his final start for Nicky Henderson when 8/16 behind Bear Ghylls but looked in need of the run at the finish. He now resides with Nicky’s assistant trainer Toby Lawes and he ran a fine race on his first start for the yard at Southwell behind the potentially useful Only The Bold to finish second at 40/1. A former winning Point to Pointer he looks sure to improve for a fence and is a 9yo that has only had 4 races under rules and the least exposed in the field.

Annsam – (3.35 Sandown, 1pt each-way – 20/1)
I am highly surprised at the price of the unexposed ANNSAM who comes here off the back of an excellent 42 length win at Ludlow last time and although his rating has increased quite substantially, he is unexposed and on the up. He should be unbeaten since Nov 2019 but for a poor ride behind House Island on his penultimate start and this track will play to his strengths if taking up the option of a soft lead. He is completely unexposed after just 10 career starts and looks tailor-made for fences so can continue his progression.

Strike Hallow – (4.37 Hereford, 1pt win – 15/8)
STRIKE HALLOW looks the best-handicapped horse in this race on her handicap debut but regular jockey Charlie Deutsch goes to Sandown so caution must be taken. An opening handicap mark of 108 now down at 2m on better ground could seriously underestimate her especially on the strength of her fourth at Chepstow over 2 ½ in which she failed to see out the trip. This looks a good opportunity to open her account and confidence would be boosted if she got her way on the front end.
