Trainer Richard Fahey has an excellent record in this race with four wins in the last nine years and his representative TORO STRIKE is in receipt of weight from all bar two rivals and both of those have something to prove at present so this looks like a good opportunity for this course winner to get back to winning ways. He was last seen to finish 8/9 at Longchamp in the Prix de la Foret in which he wasn’t disgraced on unfavoured heavy ground. His form figures on good ground or quicker now read 133215 and over this optimum trip of 7f and coupled with his favoured ground, they read 1 and 3. He looked a progressive horse to keep on the right side of last term and there is no reason as to why he shouldn’t continue that today when favoured at these weights.

RUSSIAN VIRTUE – (6.15 Nottingham, 2pts win – 6/4)
RUSSIAN VIRTUE caught the eye on a couple of occasions last term as a three-year-old but bettered that form at the first time of asking this season on the back of a gelding operation and a 230 day break at Doncaster. He made smooth headway before being denied a clear run on two occasions to finish 5th but finished with running left on handicap debut off today’s unchanged handicap mark. The form could not have worked out better with those that have run since, the runner-up won the next twice, the third went within a head of scoring next time at Catterick, the ninth, finished runner-up next time on the AW while the 12th placed horse won next time out also. This opening handicap mark looks extremely lenient on the balance of his form and he should have no trouble getting his head in front in this contest today so gets a confident vote.
