Manigordo – (1.50 Musselburgh, 1pt each-way – 22/1)
Lots of these have intertwining form from last season and you can make a case for a fair few but it just may pay to take a flyer on MANIGORDO who looked a bright prospect as a two-year-old. He failed to go on as a three-year-old but he was pitched into strong handicaps off a mark in the high 90’s for much of the season thanks to his excellent performances as a two-year-old. He has now been gelded and switched to the Tim Easterby yard and has fallen to an attractive handicap mark of 84. Fresh looks to be the time to catch him with both of his wins coming after breaks and he is drawn well to attack and lead from the front. At the prices, he could surprise a few at an each way price.

Copper Knight – (15.00 Musselburgh, 1pt each-way – 8/1)
COPPER KNIGHT has fallen to a career-low handicap mark and inclusive of Ella McCain’s 5lbs claim he now runs off a mark of 82 and that puts him much better off at the weights with a variety of his opponents today. He wasn’t beaten far at Catterick off a 8lb (effectively) higher mark behind Justanotherbottle considering he ran the far side rail on his own on the worst of the soft ground. He has a fair record fresh with form figures of 2402 and he has been beaten less than 10 lengths in three starts at this venue off of marks of 105, 100 (this race 2 yrs ago) and 95. On his last course and distance run for which he was beaten 2 lengths easily by Tarboosh, he is now 20lbs better off at the weights and that’s the same story for many of his rivals today so he gets the vote.

Colonial Dreams – (15.15 Haydock, 1pt each-way – 7/1)
COLONIAL DREAMS took a big step back in the right direction at Newbury last time out and made up considerable ground off a sedate early gallop and recorded a fast final circuit time to finish third behind Regarding Ruth. He was the only horse to make up significant ground from the rear and he is now 8lbs better off with the winner after the handicapper has taken a chance and left him on the same handicap mark of 133. That mark, on the balance of his form from 2019/2018 looks lenient and he is unexposed at this 3m trip which is sure to see him improve further.

Canyon City – 15:15 Haydock, 1pt each-way – 33/1)
I didn’t quite expect to see CANYON CITY at such a big price across all bookmakers given he is the only course and distance winner in the field and he is undoubtedly well-handicapped now a full 16lbs lower than his last victory which ironically came here. The form of that race ties in with the above selection Colonial Dreams and he is another that took a step forward at Newbury in the same race and a return to this venue will surely see him put in another improved performance so he is worth a small saver.

Primos Comet – (4.11 Musselburgh, 1.5pts each-way – 13/2)
Lots of well-handicapped horses in this field but none more so than PRIMO’S COMET who has shaped as though he is about to run into form with good performances at Newcastle the last twice and he now returns to Musselburgh, a course that has seen him run well on multiple occasions yielding form figures of 3721617. He has now dropped to a career-low handicap mark of 67, 8lbs lower than his last visit to this venue when third behind Victory Angel and Machree and he is now 2lbs better off with the latter and has a race fitness advantage and he was denied a clear run on that occasion. He is drawn well in stall 10 and the booking of Hollie Doyle catches the eye and he surely must go very close to winning this.

Cooking Fat – (4.33 Carlisle, 1pt win – 7/2)
COOKING FAT was better than the bare result last time at Catterick over hurdles when a late mistake cost him the race behind a well-handicapped horse in Poppa Poutine. That run suggests he retains all of his old ability and he is handicapped to go well off of this career-low mark of 118 and the switch to fences for this race at a course he has gone well at off higher marks previously looks to have been the plan. The cheek-pieces are switched out for the blinkers a method that worked at Perth in 2018 and the retained booking of the champion title-chasing jockey Brian Hughes could prove significant.
