POGO (1.50 York, 1pt each-way 6/1)
A really good race to kickstart the day and POGO rates a rock solid each-way play back at York. He ran an excellent race here two-years ago in the Acomb to finish fourth behind Phoenix Of Spain and won a hot handicap at this meeting last term.
He has taken his form to a new level this season with an outstanding Listed win at Windsor before a career-best third in the Group 1 Prix d’lspahan behind Persian King and he doesn’t look done improving just yet.
His Listed win was given a boost by the second Urban Icon who finished fifth behind Mohaather in the Summer Mile at Ascot and then second off top weight behind Prompting at Goodwood. The form of his latest third in the Group 1 mentioned above was boosted by Positive who ran an excellent race at Salisbury to finish third behind Regal Reality in a Group 3 and that form ties in with Beat Le Bon who runs in a higher graded race today.
It’s hard to see three finishing in front of him here and rates a good each-way bet at the prices.

KIPPS (2.25 York, 1pt each-way 7/1)
Another cracker here and I have probably been on the right side of most of these this season, and now its KIPPS’ turn.
He should appreciate this step up in trip and is almost certainly going to be rated higher than this mark of 88 come the end of the season but he seemed to lack the gears to get involved over the shorter trips.
He and Favourite Moon have met previously at Wolverhampton over a mile as two-year-olds and the selection came out on top there, but it’s the step up in trip that makes Kipps of most interest. He was making significant gains on subsequent group winner Hukum at Ascot and wasn’t stopping at the line despite having to make his challenge widest of all and conceding first run.
They applied the blinkers and dropped him back in trip on his latest run at Newmarket, which looks the completely wrong decision on the evidence of Ascot, so with that headgear off he is of serious interest.

SAFE VOYAGE (3.00 York, 2pts win 4/1)
SAFE VOYAGE looks an attractive proposition at the prices and in my opinion, this is the best seven-furlong horse outside of Space Blues in Europe and he would have finished a lot closer to that rival on his latest start if granted a clear passage on the inside rail.
The winner is undoubtedly a Group 1 horse but they were only separated by a neck at Haydock two starts ago and his latest performance shouldn’t be underestimated when staying on strongly under hands and heels riding.
He was a Listed winner on his penultimate start taking care of today’s rival Shine So Bright (winner of this race last year) with the minimum of fuss and he looks to have taken his form to a new level this season with that run a career-best effort on the figures.

GLENCADAM GLORY (3.40 York, 0.5pts each-way 33/1)
GLENCADAM GLORY was rated as high as 110 two years ago for John Gosden and has been a shrewd purchase by Tim Easterby this season.
He ran well on the back of a 722-day break in Listed company before fading inside the final furlong to be beaten 5 lengths by subsequent group winner Red Verdon and then posted an eyecatching effort 13 days later in the Northumberland Plate before stumbling on the bend when travelling smoothly into the home straight.
On his third run this term, he was beaten over 1m4f on soft ground and posted a creditable effort with that his first try on going softer than good, and then at Ripon on his latest start he finished strongly over the same trip.
He was all at sea on the undulations there but finished with a power-packed punch and likely would have won if not short for room in the final 100 yards. He has been building to a big performance and given he is very lightly raced (14 runs) for a six-year-old (won three of the last 5), he makes plenty of appeal at a big price.

FUJAIRA PRINCE (3.40 York, 1pt win 13/2)
FUJAIRA PRINCE was a winner for this column at Royal Ascot and he has the tools to go on to run in Pattern company in the future if keeping sound.
Connections nominated this race for him once crossing the finishing line at Ascot and given he has been tough to get right he should be trained to the minute for this race. Group horses or those that are 10ls well in are the horses to come to the fore here and the selection could certainly be the first mentioned.

ACKLAM EXPRESS (4.10 York, 1pt each-way 11/2)
ACKLAM EXPRESS has shown an explosive turn of foot for a two-year-old this season and he looks a sprinter to keep on the right side of.
He was one of the only winners at Goodwood to make ground up on the leaders over 5f at the meeting and the manner in which he put that race to bed suggests he is going places.
That was a handicap win off a mark of 77 and the assessor quickly gave him a 15lb rise in the weights. The form has worked out well and there are not many horses who earn a hike in the weights of that considerable measure
. The favourite sets the standard but he could quite easily surpass that today and represents excellent each-way value.

SINJAARI (4.40 York, 2.5pts each-way 4/1)
Derevo warrants respect after showing up well from a wide draw at Goodwood but Maydanny and SINJAARI are the two to focus on here and I was tempted to back the pair (wouldn’t put you off) given they both look to be Pattern performers going forward, but the latter was so impressive on seasonal return after a gelding operation in the highly competitive John Smith’s Gold Cup that he swings the vote.
He was value for much more than an 8lb rise that day and it would be folly to think he would not improve for that run. He represents a trainer who has a 22% strike rate at this meeting in the last 12 years and his form from last term is rock solid.
He has his ideal conditions for a repeat victory here and his form figures over this optimum trip read 13222. The horses that finished in front of him over this trip are rated 95, 109, 115 and 106 and he has been beaten no more than 2¾ lengths.
On the back of a career-best effort he rates an excellent each-way bet to nothing and I wouldn’t put you off a forecast with Maydanny.

GEETANJALI (5.00 Sandown, 1pt each-way 28/1)
This market looks strange to me and GEETANJALI represents significant value at the prices down in class and back here at Sandown.
She has had impossible tasks the last twice in Class 2 company and on her penultimate start in Class 3 company she bumped into Nkosikazi (102) and this is more realistic.
She ran well at Chelmsford off this mark from a hold-up position in a race that favoured those ridden prominently and that was a much stronger race than the one today.
Her apprentice takes off a valuable 7lb so she is effectively running off a mark of 78, 1lb higher than her course and distance win here this time last year over today’s favourite Geranium and she is 4lb better off with that rival.
Her recent form figures in class 4 races read 22351 and her record here at Sandown reads 11 off of marks of 72 and 77. She looks to be still on the upgrade and can continue her progression today.

MERAAS (5.10 York, 1.5pts win 10/3)
I have long been waiting for connections to drop MERAAS down to 5f and with the capable apprentice Olly Stammers is value for his 5lb claim this looks an excellent opportunity to get back in the winners enclosure. At Pontefract earlier in the season he showed blistering speed to trounce his rivals but saw his lead reduced in the closing stages as he tired. It was the same stroy in the highly competitive Stewards Cup last time out when beaten just 2 ¼ lengths by the excellent Summerghand but if that race was to have been stopped at the ½ furlong pole he would have won by a fair margin. On paper this is an easier task but this should be a point and shoot job and its likely he will run a solo from stall 11 and I would be disappointed should he not make all.
