UBER COOL – (1.25 Ascot, 1pt win – 10/3)
UBER COOL is the most fascinating runner in this race and won’t be bothered what the ground does. He left a deep impression at Chester 70 days ago and connections look to have taken measures (break) to avoid the bounce factor.
He is entitled to improve for that effort now upped further in trip and he looked well treated up just 5lbs against some exposed rivals, so he is hard to ignore. He caught the eye in the Cesarewitch when last seen at Newmarket travelling strongly only to fail to see out the final furlong. He must go close if putting in any sort of effort like his Chester run.

SPANISH KISS – (2.00 Ascot, 1pt win – 6/1)
SPANISH KISS looks a good bit of value here given he looked the most progressive handicapper before failing in a bid for a hattrick over 1m6f last time when held up in a slowly run race. He had to do a lot of running to get into a challenging position before his effort petered out and today’s drop back in trip looks a good move by connections.
He has won over 1m6f previously but that came in another slowly run race against much inferior rivals at Newmarket. Today’s trip could be his optimum and on the balance of his form, notably his defeat of the now Ebor favourite Live Your Dream looks very strong for a race of this type in which he faces mainly exposed rivals. Graphite as mentioned on the podcast will be a danger.

BEAR FORCE ONE – (2.35 Ascot, 1pt each-way – 14/1)
By far the most interesting runners in this field are BEAR FORCE ONE and DASHING ROGER and both should be backed in this contest. The former is a tricky customer but this may be the time to catch him second time out after a break, back up to his optimum trip of 1m for which he is unexposed and with the cheek-pieces re applied.
He scored in first time cheek-pieces in impressive style last term at Newmarket in a race which has worked out extremely well beating a horse now rated 18lbs higher in the handicap, while he contests this race only 2lbs higher. He is drawn stall one to gain a prominent position and this stiff 1m will really suit, so at double figure odds he represents value in the race.

DASHING RODGER – (2.35 Ascot, 1pt win – 5/1)
DASHING ROGER put in a career best at Salisbury last time and left the impression that he has plenty more to offer yet off just a 1lbs higher mark. He impressed me in the way he quickened up past horses like Ouzo as though they were standing still and that took his form figures in handicaps over 1m on turf to 12121013. On the latest evidence he could still defy the handicapper.

VICTORIA GROVE – (2.50 Newmarket, 0.5pt each-way – 25/1)
There is not a lot between most of these and the two of interest are both at big odds so can be backed each way.
VICTORIA GROVE is bred to be a middle-distance horse yet she showed plenty on debut over course and distance despite running very green and not knowing her job. She quickened up very smartly in the closing stages and with a stack of pace on in this race she could play a major role.
It was impressive finish from her given the position she was in at the furlong pole behind a useful type that ties in most of these on different form lines and she got closer to that rival than today’s short-priced favourite so the prices are slightly baffling.
BACK VICTORIA GROVE HERE AND GET £40 IN FREE BETS
ARDBRACCAN – (2:50pm, Newmarket , 0.5pt each-way – 18/1)
ARDBRACCAN finished ahead of Victoria Grove last time but only a length behind the form line setter Inspiral. She has since won in good style over course and distance before catching the eye at Goodwood when denied a clear run.
It’s likely that course would not have suited given she is an out and out galloper. Today’s strong pace will suit her and she is a big player at a wild price.

CONTACT – (3.10 Ascot, 1pt win – 6/1)
CONTACT and Skycutter look the pair to focus on and a chance is taken on the former after putting in another bold bid in at Haydock last time over a trip that stretched him on deep ground.
He clearly favours a sounder surface but the drop back in trip could be the ticket and providing the ground doesn’t get too deep, he looks well treated 7lbs higher than his Pontefract romp. Given his upwardly mobile profile he is worth another chance in a race like this and should be seeing this trip out strongly.

DREAM COMPOSER – (3.45 Ascot, 1pt win – 4/1)
I can’t get away from DREAM COMPOSER who looks very well-handicapped on the evidence of his latest run in a hot race at Royal Ascot when steaming home from the rear of the field. He went past horses like Popmaster like they were stood still and the step back up to 6f for which he scored on his penultimate start at Kempton in good style looks a good move.
The more rain that falls the better for him and he must go close off this mark of 89.
