I couldn’t put anyone off many of these today, and I found myself umming and arring about a few. I will back Fussil Raffles also in this contest but closer to the time when knowing what the weather will do, and I will update on my Twitter if he is an advised bet. For now, it’s just DEYRANN DE CARJAC, who is a belting bet at 50/1.
He was given far too much to do when advised for the Paddy Power Gold Cup last week when it paid to be ridden prominently on that old course. That was also his first start of the season, and he ran a career-best on the figures to finish 11th, but it was the way he finished off the race that had me wanting to keep him on side for next time.
From three out to the finish, he ran faster than Protektorat, Laylor and Midnight Shadow and given he was 20 lengths adrift coming down the hill; he did well to be beaten just nine lengths. The handicapper has dropped him a further four pounds for that effort, and he looks extremely well treated on the pick of his form off this mark of 133. He fits the age trend and the handicap bracket and should be better suited to this stamina track on the new course.

TOO FRIENDLY – (2.40 Doncaster, 1pt win – 13/2)
This is not the strongest Juvenile Hurdle we will see but TOO FRIENDLY sets the form standard with his latest win at Newcastle, and he was far better than the bare result suggests there after being far too keen throughout. The runner-up has been given a rating of 123, and that would not be far off winning this. In the hope he can settle, and the stronger pace plays to his strengths, he looks good value at the prices.

HEAVEN HELP US – (3.00 Cheltenham, 1pt win – 14/1)
HEAVEN HELP US makes this far more interesting than it would have otherwise been. She arrives on the back of a sixth at Punchestown, but that race was run at a very strong pace, and it was only a bad mistake three-out that ended her chances when her yet to play her hand. She won the Coral Cup here and is best at the weights in this contest.
She also won her Maiden here at Cheltenham and was in the process of running a good race in the Supreme Novice Hurdle before being hampered at odds of 100/1. She is on the upgrade over hurdles and has a big chance of making all of the running today.

KAUTO RIKO – (3.15 Doncaster, 2pts win – 13/2)
KAUTO RIKO should enjoy this step up to 3m and fresh looks the time to catch him with an impeccable record on the back of a break. He was last seen pulling up in the Topham Chase back in April over the National fences, but he doesn’t jump well enough to land a blow in that sphere, so that run is easily forgiven.
Prior to that, he was an excellent 4th in the 2020 Paddy Power Gold Cup on the back of a 247 day break off a handicap mark of 142, and his reappearance in 2019 saw him run 3/4 of a length second to Top Notch in the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase while he scored on both outings the two previous years. This is much calmer waters today for his reappearance, and he looks well over-priced at the time of writing.

INDEFATIGABLE – (3.35 Cheltenham, 1pt win – 6/1)
INDEFATIGABLE takes a steep drop in grade today and returns to a handicap for the first time since scoring in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival, and she is on the same mark. Her latest performance can easily be forgiven, and this is more her trip and her level today.
She has a good record at Cheltenham and was second in this race off top weight in 2019 when bumping into the well-handicapped Dame De Compagnie. There is nothing truly well handicapped in this race today, and provided she gets a good pace to aim at, she can bounce back to winning ways.
