Horse Racing Tips - Daryl Carter Best Bets On Saturday, October 10

BRAD THE BRIEF (1.00 York, 0.5pts win 13/2)

BRAD THE BRIEF is an improving three-year-old who is lightly raced this season and given that age group have won five of the last ten runnings of this contest he is taken to register back-to-back victories after the defeat of Summerghand at Newmarket last time out.

His only blip this term came at Chester when slowly away from the gates from a wide berth so that run can easily be excused. There doesn’t look to be a lot of pace on in here and Dakota Gold could get a soft lead, but the selection is drawn close to him and may get a nice tow into the race. At the prices he looks good value.

DUBAI HONOUR (1.30 York, 1pt win 3/1)

DUBAI HONOUR impressed when readily coming clear of a useful horse at Haydock when last seen and that form ties in with one that contests the Group 3 Zetland Stakes later in the day at Newmarket.

He now takes his first step into handicap company off what looks a fair mark of 90 after travelling powerfully and then quickening clear in the style of a good horse and he can continue winning ways here.

REGIONAL (2.00 York, 1pt win 9/2)

Richard Fahey’s REGIONAL did well from an unpromising position at Ayr in a stronger Listed event last time out over 5f (winner since won a Group 3 next time) and looked in desperate need of an extra furlong, so the step up in trip will likely see him progress again.

A winner on debut at Pontefract in good style beating the 85-rated Politics who won next time out and he then wasn’t disgraced at York behind Acklam Express. He improved despite being beaten at Ayr and finished under a hands-and-heels ride when it paid to be on the pace, so he gets the vote to get back to winning ways.

SPIRIT DANCER (2.35 York, 0.5pts each-way 9/1)

SPIRIT DANCER did too much too soon in the early stages of the race at Ayr and paid the price late on but the way he rallied once First Impression came alongside suggested there was more in the tank and he may have been idling.

He is 2lb higher here but his form has worked out well and, given he was able to win at Ripon on his penultimate start despite not handling the track, he is on a firm upward curve.

He was an unlucky loser behind Ilaraab (today’s 5/2 fav) at Wolverhampton on his first start of the season and the price discrepancy looks wrong so a chance is taken to justify the strong support in the market he received at Ayr..

DIOCLETIAN (3.35 Newmarket, 0.5pts each-way 25/1)

One stab at this given the mammoth column today and that is DIOCLETIAN who has continued to improve this season and could have more to offer.

He needed the run on reappearance and then was very slowly away at Sandown losing many lengths at the start putting him on the back foot. Both of those runs came in headgear, but that was quickly discarded and an improved performance was seen at Chester when he was given far too much to do on that tight track behind Spanish Mission.

His latest effort at Haydock when coming fast and late behind the smart Euchen Glen, who took the scalp of Logician on Friday, was enough to think this 2m2f trip will be right up his street and the soft ground will see him in a better light with form figures of 3291 (the nine coming on first run after a gelding op).

BREATHTAKING LOOK (4.15 Newmarket, 1pt win 13/2)

Slow ground has to be a concern for many of these runners today but that doesn’t apply to BREATHTAKING LOOK who has had a fine season so far including a Group 3 win in Deauville on heavy ground.

Back here at Newmarket and down in class into a Listed race and back in against her own sex. she looks excellent value to get back to winning ways. Her excellent second here to July Cup winner Oxted is by far the strongest form on offer and her course form figures now read 2171, so despite the good record of three-year-olds and her penalty she is favoured to go in.

IMRAHOR (4.50 Newmarket, 0.5pts each-way 22/1)

IMRAHOR has plenty to find on the official figures but it’s unlikely that a mark of 87 reflects his true ability and, with many of these looking for a faster surface, he could spring a surprise.

He was impressive at Hamilton, running a very good time (3.5 seconds quicker inside the final 3 furlongs than the 85-rated winner on the card) and did it under tender handling. This market looks a mess so it’s worth siding with one at a big price for a trainer who does well at his local venue.

BARYSHNIKOV (4.55 York, 1pt win 6/1)

BARYSHNIKOV is a really likeable horse and continues to progress for this column so ditching him now after showing a great attitude at Ayr when held up off a very slow pace would be folly and he gets the vote to take the step up in grade in his stride.

He finished with plenty in hand on that occasion and a 3lb rise significantly underestimates the way the race was run, so he gets a confident vote to continue on this upward curve.

Valyrian Steel and Fishable remain live dangers but this big field scenario should suit the selection.
