PRAIANO – (2.20 Haydock, 1pt win – 5/1)
PRAIANO needs to take a step forward here, but he has given the impression we have not seen the best of him yet with his only attempt at this clearly optimum trip coming at Sandown last time when denied a clear run.
He had to drop to the rear of the field and come wide to chase home the winner Oceanline who was well-positioned throughout the race. The strong pace on offer in here will suit and give him the test he has been crying out for. He is on the upgrade and looks well treated off this mark of 85.

WAHRAAN – (3.10 Ascot, 2pts win – 11/4)
WAHRAAN did best of those held up behind Migration at York and was denied a clear passage, so the fact he has only been beaten two lengths on that occasion when he finished with running left marked him down as one to keep on side.
The step-up in trip is a big source of improvement, with all of his best work this season coming at the end of 1m2f. He could be group material as we advance should he continue on this upward curve, and he remains one to be excited about.

CREATIVE FORCE – (3.30 Haydock, 1pt win – 6/1)
CREATIVE FORCE gets one more roll of the dice because I am sure he is a better horse away from Newmarket and is well suited by a faster surface. If I am right, his record on good ground or better reads 10115 and away from Newmarket, it reads 1, 1.
He has reached a very high level in such a short space of time, as has the favourite for who he only has two lengths to find. He will enjoy this flat track, fast groud, and he could cause an upset here, but if nothing else, we will find out just how good he is.

GARRUS – (3:30pm, 0.5pts each-way – 40/1)
GARRUS gets a small saver, give he is a massive price who arrives on the back of a career-best in Deauville and is drawn amongst the pace angles. He is unexposed over 6f on fast ground with form figures reading 3181, and he wasn’t beaten far in the Diamond Jubilee on unfavoured soft ground.
His price looks well off to me, and he only has three lengths to find with today’s favourite Starman when on the wrong side of the track.

SILVER SAMURAI – (3.45 Ascot, 1pt each-way – 11/1)
A big run is expected from SILVER SAMURAI, who caught the eye behind a subsequent winner at Newbury last time when denied a clear run. He would have surely finished much closer to the winner, granted a clear passage and with his Newmarket run easily excused (previously poor there), he has now improved the last twice for the fitting of the hood.
The key to this horse is the fast ground. He has had good or better ground five times in his career, and he has won twice with excuses for two others and the other his latest effort. He is well-handicapped on the balance of his good ground form, including when beating Count Of Amazonia, who is now rated 104 and then chasing home Finest Sound here at Haydock when that one was rated 82 (now 99).

KING TRITON – (4.00 Thirsk, 1pt win – 3/1)
It’s a good race on paper, and few need to bounce back from disappointing efforts, including the favourite Noble Dynasty, so a chance is taken with KING TRITON, who made his handicap debut in the hot Sky Bet Mile at York recently when third of 14. That was an excellent run in good company, and that race is likely to work out very well going forward, so is a form line I am keen to keep on side.
He was very keen early on but still finished with a powerful punch, and outside of Royal Ascot, that is probably the strongest 1m handicap form. He is open to plenty of improvement after just one start for this yard and returns to the scene of his last victory. Unexposed, and his prominent style of racing will be well suited to this track.

PASSIONOVA – (4.20 Ascot, 1pt win – 5/1)
The favourite could be thrown in here off of this mark, but it’s difficult to come up with the evidence to support the argument. That’s not the case with PASSIONOVA, who gave 7lbs and a beating to a thrice subsequent winner, including at York, and is now rated 93 (1lbs higher than the selection).
She did well on unfavoured soft ground when chasing home Waliyak at Haydock. The return to a sounder surface over this stiff mile are both big positives to see her continue her improvement and remains a promising prospect.
