SKY DEFENDER – (2.05 Yarmouth, 1pt win – 11/2)
The City’s Phantom is 2/2 here, but he won’t be able to dictate this race with SKY DEFENDER in here. Despite the below-par performance at Sandown last time, he looks worth giving another chance to with the handicapper relenting even further with another 3lbs drop in the weights. He has now been dropped 8lbs in three runs and two of those were right up to his best efforts this term.
This smaller field should suit, and there is only one other front runner, so he may be able to dictate matters. He looks like the best-handicapped horse in the race, and it won’t be long before he gets his head back in front.1

TREACHEROUS – (2.15 Goodwood, 1pt win – 3/1)
The cheek-pieces are an interesting addition for TREACHEROUS. He caught the eye at Goodwood in the Stewards Cup Consolation race when denied a clear run off a 2lbs lower mark, and then put in a career-best at Windsor next time behind a well-handicapped rival. This looks an excellent opportunity to score for the first time since Haydock last season and his form in defeat this year suggests he has improved further.
The handicapper has given him plenty of chances but these conditions look ideal today and his record at this is clearly a track he likes (winner on his previous start). He looks sure to score off this mark sooner or later.

TORO STRIKE – (4.00 Goodwood, 2.5pts win – 7/2)
This is far easier than the assignment TORO STRIKE was set in the Lennox last time and in the John Of Gaunt at Haydock on his penultimate start. He is back on a faster surface now for the first time since scoring for this column at Thirsk, and his form figures here at Goodwood read 6213.
This race lacks plenty of depth, and this is another excellent piece of placing by Richard Fahey. He has failed to finish outside of the first three on good or better ground since his debut, and he was only touched off by a neck by Happy Power (112) in this race last year and there is nothing other than the out of form Tactical rated within 6ls of that one. He holds the strongest form lines in the race, is still relatively unexposed and should take some stopping in this event!

MEDIA GUEST – (5.00 Yarmouth, 1pt win – 11/2)
MEDIA GUEST was a big eye-catcher when tipped up at a big price in this column last time and was denied a clear run when desperately needed. He can gain compensation here and is open to significant improvement back at the scene of his promising debut run. The quicker ground looks the key, and surprisingly, the handicapper has dropped him 1lb for his latest effort.
That form has worked out well, the winner has gone in again twice, and the third scored in good style at Kempton next time. He should have learned a good deal from that run at Windsor.

CAMANCHESS – (5:00pm Yarmouth, 1pt each-way – 12/1)
CAMANCHESS is a big price here, considering she loves this venue – form figures of 14114, and she still remains on a winnable mark. Despite being a five-year-old, she is still unexposed on fast ground with form figures of 1141634. The visor on the first time looks like an interesting move after two below-par performances. For all, the 5f at Sandown was too sharp; the ground went against her at Windsor.
She won at Haydock this season, and that’s the only time she has raced under suitable conditions. This is a drop back into a Class 5 for which her form figures on turf read 161511, and three of those have come at this venue, so she is worth chancing at double-figure odds.
