KINROSS – (2.50 Deauville, 1pt win – 8/1)

KINROSS has improved for the drop to 7f and soft ground the last twice, and he is now starting to build on the promise he showed early in his career.

The form of his latest win at Goodwood holds plenty of strength in depth, and he was comfortably on the line over that sharp 7f, so this 6 ½ on testing ground should suit him. He is improving with each start and makes plenty of appeal at the prices.

BRANDO 2:50pm Deauville, 0.5pt each-way – 50/1)

BRANDO doesn’t hold the usual profile for a winner of this race, but the deep ground conditions do bring the nine-year-old into this on his best form, and he has conditions to play a part.

The extra ½ a furlong given his fast and late-running style should suit, and he may be up to causing a surprise given he was only touched off in a very strong renewal of this race in 2019. He caught the eye in the July Cup when only beaten 2 lengths by Starman despite not getting a clear run, and he has the right conditions to put in a big showing here.

SERGENT TIBBS – (4.00 Leicester, 1pt win – 12/1)

I’ve had to add a selection late on because the price is simply too good to turn away. SERGEANT TIBBS has faced stiff competition so far in his short career and he shaped as though the drop back to 7f would really suit last time in a good race at Ascot. The second, third and fifth have all come out and won next time and he did the best of those from the rear of the field. He has shown enough promise to think that he could land a similar race and today finds himself in a much weaker event on paper.

His early season form at Kempton has a very strong look to it, and it was a good step forward last time at Ascot for his first run on turf. The stronger tempo and the drop back in trip are reasons to think he can get his head in front off this handicap mark of 80.

MOGUL – (4.00 Deauville, 1pt win – 2/1)

MOGUL is unproven on ground this deep but this is a big drop in class compared to what he has been used to and he has run two excellent races when traveling to France previously including recording an RPR of 124 and in Group 1 company last time.

He looks out of place in this line up and this looks his optimum trip so he is worth chancing to bounce back after a poor effort last time. Star Safari is a big danger and has similar ground concerns.

CASTLE STAR – (4.10 Curragh, 1pt win – 3/1)

CASTLE STAR was slowly away in the Group 2 Railway Stakes when bettered by the well-positioned Go Bears Go over course and distance last time, but given the ground the selection had to make up on the winner, his performance can be upgraded.

He is also proven at a high level on ground with cut in it, and his impressive win on his subsequent start means he is a two-year-old to keep on side. With a cleaner break and a more prominent position, and a clearer passage, he is taken to reverse form with the Norfolk runner-up.

TRUE MASON – (4.25 Haydock, 1pt each-way – 20/1)

This 6f will take some getting, and TRUE MASON keeps catching the eye staying on strongly on ground quicker than ideal, including last time at York when denied a clear passage at a vital stage behind a couple of useful horses that have gone on to win again including Mr Wagu and Capote’s Dream.

His previous run on ground with cut in it behind the useful Punchbowl flyer over course and distance puts him in with a massive shout in this Class 4 race. The first time hood can help him see out his races in a stronger fashion, and he looks a wild price in this field.

FFION – (5.45 Haydock, 2pts win – 15/2)

FFION is well worth keeping on side returned to Haydock in this much weaker race than the two she contested on heavy ground back in May. She looks extremely well-handicapped given how well those races have worked out, and her excellent second to Lola Showgirl at Ascot is the strongest piece of form on offer.

She will appreciate the deep conditions and has been given a chance by the handicapper, so she must have a big say in proceedings here.
