AHEAD OF THE FIELD – (12.45 Southwell, 1pt each-way – 7/1)
Another chance is given to AHEAD OF THE FIELD, who was well supported on chase debut to no avail at Lingfield. He shaped with a good deal of promise in a stronger contest than this, though, only to be hampered five-out and then shape as though he would be better for the run. There are reasons to expect improvement today.
The drop back in trip, the first time tongue-tie and the improvement in the fitness department is given as all reasons to side with him again. This represents a drop-in class, and the handicapper has dropped him five pounds, and on the evidence of his, Maiden Hurdle win in Ireland on his penultimate start that looks lenient. On just his second start for the yard, he should be taking a step forward.

CUP OF COFFEE – (2.25 Southwell, 1pt win – 10/3)
The handicapper has given Peltwell another opportunity here with just a five-pound rise, but she faces the unexposed handicap debutant CUP OF COFFEE here who could have been let in lightly on this handicap bow off 114.
She fell at Catterick last December when shaping like the winner of a good Mares Novice Hurdle in which Peltwell’s recent neck second Sashenka looked well held by the selection. Sashenka is now rated 120, while the winner of that race last term is rated 127.
Her seasonal return second in September suggested she would improve dramatically for the run, and she duly obliged taking care of a useful Paul Nicholls horse in Rainyday Woman at Ludlow, and she looks a good bit of value here to take on the favourite with further improvement expected.
