Taking on the Skelton favourite here is a worthy play given his lack of progression so far and Thomas Macdonagh is of definite interest once dropped back to a more suitable trip given he has failed to stay 3m on two attempts now. The offering is EVA’S OSKAR, who is the one open to most progression on the back of an encouraging chase debut on seasonal reappearance at Exeter when he was given too much to do from the rear of the field in a slowly run race. He was a rapid improver in Novice Hurdle races last term including when placing third in the Albert Bartlett Grade 2 Novice trial in which he had today’s rival Thomas Macdonagh in behind. He is entitled to improve for fitness and the experience so gets the vote at a course that should play to his stamina strengths.

Out On The Tear – (2.35 Catterick, 1pt win 7/4)
OUT ON THE TEAR was value for much more than the 8lb rise he received for his course win over 2m last time out and this extra distance is only likely to see him improve further. His chase debut when second at Chepstow has worked out remarkably well with the winner being hit with a 14lbs rise in the weights (yet to run) and the third bolting up at Ascot off a 5lb higher mark (now rated 130). The fourth went within a nose of winning next time when reposing the seventh from that race and they are 4lb higher and 6lb higher respectively and the fifth looked like winning before falling in his next start. The selection still looks well treated and is worth siding with to notch back to back victories.
