NOMADIC EMPIRE – (2.40 York, 1pt each-way – 12/1)
NOMADIC EMPIRE would be the first choice of the two I will back in here. He was denied a clear run at a crucial moment in the race at York last time behind Copper Knight after travelling powerfully through the contest, and he wasn’t given a hard time to get within five lengths of the winner.
He now looks ready for the step back up to 6f, and he has failed to run a poor race at this venue in better company than he faces today. This is a drop back in class, and he looks fairly treated on the balance of his form and is drawn on the right side of the track.

EY UP IT’S MAGGIE – (2:40 York, 1pt win – 10/1)
EY UP IT’S MAGGIE has been frustrating, but interesting connections pulled out of the race at Hamilton (vets cert) to come here. He has a good record at York with form figures of 533 with two of those in hot company, and this is easier than the tasks he has faced the last twice with this a drop in grade.
The step back up to 6f looks a good move, and he is 6lbs better off with First Folio for a 1 3/4 length defeat in a race that has produced plenty of winners. His last attempt at this trip came at Chester when drawn widest of all against his elders, and he wasn’t disgraced behind a couple of solid handicappers. This trip could unlock further improvement.

PIVOINE – 4.50 York, 1pt win – 17/2)
It would be no surprise to see Aramaic be well supported here and go off as favourite given his impressive win at Musselburgh last time out and his Kempton form that suggests he should have at least 2 or 3 pounds in hand. He never looked like pegging back the winner at Kempton, but he is open to further improvement, so he has to be feared. PIVOINE, however, is somewhat of a course specialist (2-4) here at York, and he is the proven standard-setter in this contest.
Three-year-olds don’t have the best record in the race, but they dominate the top of the market and push the selections price out to a favourable one. He is hardly improving, but he does have all the right conditions to run right up to his best, and that might be good enough right now to win this. He was a ready winner at Haydock when held up off a slow pace and ran with credit next time at Sandown behind an improving Makram. He never got into the race at Sandown on his latest start, but he has bounced back from a poor performance when returning to York, so he is worth taking a flyer on.
