Winged Isle – (1.55 Ffos Las, 1pt each-way – 11/2)
I am quite happy to play two against the field here and the first is WINGED ISLE and although he needs to really prove he can handle this quicker ground he did run an eye catching race at Ludlow on good to soft ground over 2m two starts ago in a Maiden Hurdle. He has been unfortunate to bump into three well-handicapped horses in two handicap starts but the form for this level looks extremely strong with both of his last two runs working out well. The handicapper has taken a chance by giving him just a 3lb rise for his last two handicap starts (2lb higher today) especially as the three horses that have finished in front of him are now 15lbs, 12lbs and 11lbs higher in the handicap. His time figures have been good and this looks a prime opportunity back into a Class 4.

Saint Palais – (1:55pm Ffos Las, 1pt e/w – 9/2)
The other is the four-year-old SAINT PALAIS who has lesser claims but one that will certainly benefit from this step up in trip and the handicapper looks to have given him a fair chance with this opening handicap mark of 113. He was better than the bare result on debut for this yard at Hereford when 3rd of 17 behind Herbiers and was outpaced on that sharp track at a crucial stage. He rallied strongly at Newbury last time when again lacking the turn of foot to go with the winner in a slowly run race. Today will see a stronger gallop and he looks all about stamina so is one to keep on side.

Blarney Bateleur – (2.40 Uttoxeter, 1pt each-way – 13/2)
A number of horses to consider but its worth taking a chance on BLARNEY BATELEUR who caused somewhat of an upset at Market Rasen last time but she did the best of those from the rear of the field and was the only horse to emerge from the chasing pack. That was her handicap debut and a 9lbs rise looks fair on the balance of her Novice, Maiden and Point to Point form and there is a good chance she can rate higher than this yet. She will appreciate the drying conditions and there doesn’t look to be too many ahead of their current handicap marks in here and she is receiving plenty of weight from the rest of this field.

The Bull McCabe – (2.50 Wetherby, 1pt win – 7/2)
THE BULL MCCABE pulled away his chance last time at Southwell and is well worth another chance to show what he can do on the back of his Stratford romp in a good time figure. The form of that race doesn’t look to shabby either but it was the combination of the slow gallop allowed by the leader on his latest start that saw him take a pull. Hopefully with David Bass back on board he will take up this soft option to make the running rather than rely on inferior horses and he can prove much the better of these in time.

Diamond Fort – (3.20 Wetherby, 1pt each-way – 7/1)
DIAMOND FORT may be a 9yo but he has become well treated over hurdles and the return to better ground today should see him improve on his latest effort at Uttoxeter. That was a good run but he failed to see out that 3m trip on soft ground and faded once at the final flight. Rated 131 in his prompt that was enough encouragement to suggest he is ready to bounce back to form and the combination of the drop back in trip, the return to the scene of his last victory and the booking of Champion Title chasing jockey Brian Hughes means he gets the vote.
