This is a good contest with plenty in with a shout, but I want to take an each-way chance on POL CROCAN at wild odds. He shaped well on seasonal return for a long way until he made an awkward mistake at the third last and looked to my eye as though he did himself mischief (injury).
He dropped out too quickly to take that run to be his true ability, and the handicapper has dropped him four pounds. He is entitled to strip fitter for the run as he did last November when scoring the second time out, and he returns to soft ground for the first time in two starts since bolting up in good style (and in a good time figure) at Wincanton last Feb under a penalty.
Today’s extra two furlongs will suit, as will this testing track, given he looks all about stamina. He sits on a fair mark is completely unexposed after five starts (won two of them), and a well-positioned ride here would give him every chance.

NO REMATCH – (1.40 Exeter, 1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
NO REMATCH has been off the track 314 days, but he scored off a similar lay-off at Chepstow in February, and a nine-pound rise for that doesn’t look too steep given the way he won going away.
His penultimate start was an excellent second here, recording a good time figure over hurdles, so the track should suit on this second start over fences. He is unexposed and on the upgrade, and there is surely more to come from him.

MASKADA – (2.15 Exeter, 3pts win – 11/8 bet365)
This looks like an excellent opportunity for MASKADA to get her head in front over fences at the third time of asking. She has a fitness edge on two of her rivals and an experience edge on three.
There were lots to like about the way she went through her race on Chase debut at Uttoxeter behind two smart rivals in Faivoir and Annual Invictus, and she lost little in defeat to The Glancing Queen at Bangor. This represents much calmer waters, and she is proven on soft ground and a right-handed track. There are few questions for her to answer, and she is the best bet on the Exeter card.
