DAME DU SOIR caught the eye over fences at Cheltenham on her latest start, but she was outpaced coming down the hill on a quicker than ideal surface, and in all honesty, she doesn’t jump well enough for fences to be competitive in those class 3 races.
Today she reverts back to hurdles for the first time this season, and she drops into a class 4, returning to the race she won last year off 4lbs higher. Since that win here last term, she ran with extreme credit off a handicap mark of 126 in a class 2 race behind two useful horses; the winner now rated 13lbs higher.
She looks fairly treated here, and this race may have been the target. The drop back to 2m, for which her hurdle form figures read 312 in handicaps, is a good move on this testing surface.

Gemirande is a promising horse, but DESTIN D’AJONC looked a sure-fire improver at Uttoxeter on seasonal return on the back of wind surgery, and he returns to the scene of his only success over fences off just 1lb higher.
The return to testing conditions will suit him more than the favourite Germirande, and, interestingly, this is Jonjo O’Neill Jr’s only ride for the day.
