FALL OF ROME has been handed an excellent opportunity here, and it would be no surprise should this horse compete in much higher graded races in the future on the evidence he has shown thus far. His debut run at Ascot has worked out remarkably well behind a winner now rated 110, and he was given far too much to do on that occasion.
His latest run saw him fly leap the start and be rushed up to take the lead. He was too keen to see out his first start over 6f on soft ground, but has stamina in abundance today’s sounder surface and stiffer track will suit him well. He was given a very easy time of things at Goodwood, and improvement is on the cards on the back of a gelding operation.

BEOWULF – (1:45 Yarmouth, 1pt win – 10/3)
BEOWULF is easily the most exciting runner in this contest after a good reappearance effort at Lingfield 30 days ago, and given the unexposed profile of the three-year-old who receives 10lbs from his rivals, he will likely be a popular choice here.
He is entitled to improve for that effort, and Tom Marquand’s booking makes him of serious interest at this venue, given the pair have a 40% strike rate at Yarmouth in handicaps. It would be no surprise should he take a step forward here.

MAGICAL LAND – (2.10 Haydock, 1pt win – 4/1)
There is no doubt that MAGICAL LAND has been frustrating, but there are reasons for him now to put in an improved performance. Since his last run 49 days ago, he had been gelded, and this is his first run away from Newmarket, and the flat turning track could see him to better effect.
He looks well treated on the balance of his form, and his latest run in third could not be working out better with the runner-up going on to win the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and the winner (given a poor ride) going close at the same meeting next time. He surely has more to come, so is worth another chance.

MY SWALLOW – (3.30 Yarmouth, 2pts win – 3/1)
MY SWALLOW took a good step forward at Chelmsford last time, and that race has worked out well enough to think he is very well treated off the same handicap mark here, and he can enhance Sir Michael Stoute’s 22% strike rate at this venue.
The third won next time out in good style, and the winner looks a progressive horse, and this race looks like an excellent opportunity dropped back in grade to get his head back in front.

SEA LA ROSA – (7.23 Newbury, 1pt win – 11/2)
SEA LA ROSA made the perfect start to her three-year-old career scoring easily off a 3lbs lower handicap mark, and the assessor looks to have taken a chance giving her such a small rise in the handicap.
Her run as a two-year-old at Wolverhampton last year looks a strong piece of form now, with the winner a Ribblesdale Royal Ascot scorer, the fourth twice a winner since and rated 92, and the fifth has since finished fourth in the Epsom Oaks and rated 97. On that evidence, she looks extremely well treated off this handicap mark of 80, so is well worth chancing in this Class 4 event.
