CROWNTHORPE – (3.10 – Newcastle, 1pt win – 15/2)
Chichester is likely to come out of this race, given he was hopefully a winner for us yesterday. Everything looks in place for CROWNTHORPE to run a big race back here at Newcastle, where he rarely runs a bad one with form figures of 2, UR (This race last year) and 1. He has shaped as though a return to form is imminent and is now 6lbs lower than his last winning mark (inclusive of jockey claim).
He was no match for Brentford Hope at Nottingham last time when running out of the handicap, but he did stick on well for second, and the third wasn’t beaten far in Listed company next time and the fourth won at Sandown next time. He looks like the best-handicapped horse in the race at this time, so has all the ingredients to get his head back in front.

BEZZAS LAD – (3.55 Nottingham, 1pt each-way – 10/1)
I’d happily take a chance on BEZZAS LAD at 10/1 or bigger, given he is only 4lbs above his last winning mark, which came here at Nottingham when making all over 6f. On that particular time figure, the drop back to 5f looks like a good move, and after some tough tasks this season for Michael Appleby, he returns to his former yard with trainer Tony Carroll and is immediately dropped back in trip to 5f.
This is also a drop in grade into Class 6 company, his first since going close at Chelmsford on seasonal return and his first start for Michael Appleby over a trip too far (7f). He looks worth chancing.

KIMIFIVE – (4.10 Newmarket, 2pts each-way – 8/1)
I am happy to admit I got KIMIFIVE wrong last time when dropped back to 6f, but redemption looks on the cards today over 7f. This is not a deep contest and nowhere near as deep as the ones Kimifive has been contesting over 7f, so this looks like a good opportunity to finally get his head in front.
His Newmarket form is strong, including when denied a clear run behind Motakhayyel here in the Bunbury Cup last term off a 1lb higher mark. James Doyle takes over in the saddle. The track, trip and ground are all spot on, and he is clearly capable off of this handicap mark. He is a confident bet to get the job done here.

TALBOT – (4.45 Newmarket, 1pt each-way – 11/1)
Three-year-olds go well at this time of the year given the weight allowance they receive (10lbs in this case), but there is little value with Alabama Boy and plenty with TALBOT should he decide to put it all together. It was a very encouraging run from him at Sandown last time when slowly away from the gates, and that line of form ties in with some of the strongest three-year-old handicap form this season.
Anything he has done over shorter than this 1m has likely been a bonus, and the step up in trip looks a good move on the balance of his form. This track plays to strong stayers, and he has gone under the radar.
