This is the weakest race that MASTER TEMPLAR is yet to contest and given he shaped with plenty of promise last time at Stratford and is now up further in trip he can get the better of Hurdling Magic. The Olly Murphy runner split some useful horses when last seen in November and ran a useful time figure at Uttoxeter before that run to suggest he is improving with each start. The short absence is a slight concern but its likely due to ground concerns over the winter rather than there having been an issue so he is fancied to go well under Aidan Coleman.

Takeit Easy – (14.45 Ludlow, 1pt win – 9/2)
It’s worth taking a chance on TAKEIT EASY who has shaped better than the bare result the last twice and has hinted that this handicap mark is well within reach. He won in good style at Huntingdon on handicap debut off a 9lb lower mark before catching the eye at Cheltenham when held up off a slow gallop but did the best of those from the rear of the field. It was the same story at Newbury in a slowly run race but was well backed and finished strongly in the closing stages. There looks to be a solid pace on here with Robinshill likely to take the field along and this smaller field could play to his strengths.

Motashakel – (3.07 Chepstow, 1pt each-way – 6/1)
MOTASHAKEL was much better than the bare result at Ludlow last time out on the back of a 111 day break when held up at the rear of the field in a slowly run race. He negotiated the churned up inside rail to make his headway and was the only horse on the card to finish in the top 8 from that racing position. That effort needs to be upgraded and the unexposed five-year-old looks ready to break his Maiden tag at the eighth time of asking. He has fallen to an attractive handicap mark on the balance of his form earlier this season and now looks to be the time to catch him.

The only horse that is realistically handicapped in this race is CHECKITOUT with Capeland and El Presente both looking to have little room for error off their marks of 151 and 148. The Nigel Twiston-Davies runner is improving with each run and the form of his easy Southwell win has been given a boost by the runner-up who filled that spot to be beaten ¾ of a length on his next two starts and the third landing a hurdle race next time out. The fourth have won his next two chase starts and even the fifth did no hard to the form when finishing runner-up on his next outing. He looks a horse that is just coming into his own now and he returns to Ludlow in which he was a well supported favourite and travelling strongly before falling on just his second chase start so gets the vote.
