MATTHEW FLINDERS – (2.40 York, 1pt win – 11/2)
MATTHEW FLINDERS shaped very well on return in the Spring Cup at Newbury and screamed next time out winner. The form of that race is working out well, the winner Nugget went remarkably close from an unfavoured draw at Thirsk next time and the runner-up from ties in the Lincoln form which covers some of these rivals.
There looks to be no reason as to why he cant improve on that run now race fit. A strongly run 1m looks his optimum so he can’t go un-backed.

LA TRINIDAD – (2:40pm York, 1pt each-way – 20/1)
Obviously, cases can be made for most in this highly competitive field but ((LA TRINIDAD** is wildly over-priced here and must be backed on the balance of his form last season. He only has 1 length to find with Brunch for who he is now 9lbs better off and only 3 lengths to find with Matthew Flinders for who he is now 10lbs better off.
He improved with each start here last term before encountering soft ground over 1m2f at the back end of last season and his reappearance run for which he failed to handle the undulations of Ripon, can easily be forgiven. He should come on for that and is well handicapped on the balance.

ACKLAM EXPRESS – (3.40 York, 2.5pts win – 9/4)
ACKLAM EXPRESS continues to get better and better and he will surely have bigger targets ahead of him than this and given he is fresh from a remarkable campaign in Dubai, it’s hard to see why he isn’t a shade of odds on here. As a two-year-old, he beat Winter Power twice and then disappointed behind that rival at Newmarket on soft ground which can be easily forgiven. He boasts a course and distance win and his form from Dubai is far superior to any of his rivals.
That’s without taking into account his excellent performance in the Scarborough Stakes last season against the older horses at Doncaster. He is improving into a Group 1 horse as he showed when third in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint beaten just 3/4 of a length when racing on the wrong side of the track last time out. This 5f trip suits him well for now and his turn of foot is far superior to any in this field. Atalis Bay is the danger.

PUTY MARY – (5.00 Newmarket, 1pt win – 11/2)
PUY MARY has four lengths to find with Serena’s Queen from their meeting on the AW last December but the selection was only ridden under hand and heels that day in education. She is now 6lbs better off with her on these terms and the Varian horse looked unlucky not to score on handicap debut at Nottingham last time when beaten a head.
She has gone up 1lb for that run but it was such a big step forward on her Maiden and Novice runs this route looks to have been the plan. She handled this course fine on her penultimate start when given an easy time on her final Maiden outing and now could be the time to catch her.
