Horse Racing Tips - Daryl Carter Best Bets On Thursday, May 27th

Daryl Carter looks to continue his good form with five selections at Ripon and Sandown on Thursday. Check out his bets below.

[Bollin Joan]() – (3.05 Ripon, 1pt win – 7/2)

This looks like a good opportunity for BOLLIN JOAN, who is pretty exposed on the whole but loves it here at Ripon with form figures of 2116. She caught the eye on return off a 2lb higher mark when denied a clear run at Doncaster for a prolonged period and then did too much too soon in a highly competitive race at York won by Flying Solo.

David Allan replaces Ella McCain, the same jockey who scored on her in two wins last season. The favourite is not a confirmed stayer; therefore, I would fear Pearl Beach more, but she may lack the pace needed on this undulating track.

[Sangarius] – (7.25 Sandown, 3pts win – 11/8)

SANGARIUS is the class act in this field, and despite the ground, he should be winning this before going onto better things at Royal Ascot. He has only been beaten in his career outside of Group 1 company on seasonal return, and there was plenty of encouragement to take from his Chester second behind Armory.

That time figure was easily faster than Fox Tal on the same card (once weight-adjusted), and that track would not have played to his strengths one bit. His form is the strongest overall on offer, and there are very few negatives especially given Ryan Moore takes the ride with the trainer and the jockey having a 28% strike rate. All is in place to improve.

[Ransom] – (8.00 Sandown, 1pt win – 4/1)

Stoute doesn’t usually waste bullets here, and RANSOM could be thrown in off this handicap mark of 88 now switched to the turf. His latest effort at Kempton is worth forgiving when held up off a very slow gallop, but his previous two victories clocked good times and were visually very impressive. Ryan Moore jumps back on today, and he indeed has more to come off this mark.

[Encourage] – (8.30 Sandown, 1pt win – 6/1)

A good race, but ENCOURAGE is worth forgiving his seasonal return effort at Nottingham after running far too keen in the early stages. The way he stuck on at the finish marked him down as one to follow, and he should strip fitter for that run and have the freshness kicked out of him.

This handicap mark is very low on the balance of his two-year-old form, and he looked as though he would cash in at Nottingham last season but for a denied run in the closing stages.

[Knowwhentorun] – (8.30 Sandown, 1pt each-way – 12/1)

KNOWWHENTORUN was given far too much to do by Jason Watson at Ascot. He made a strange move to switch to the back of the field and travel over the opposite side of the track, but he did his best work towards the finish and stuck on strongly. Before that, at Newbury, he was again caught on the wrong side of the track, and at Doncaster, he shaped in desperate need of the run.

If these conditions get testing, he could be over-priced on his two-year-old form, and this combination of soft ground and the 1m trip could see him at his best. He is drawn well, and a prominent ride will see him hard to peg back. He definitely can win off this handicap mark; he just hasn’t had the best of luck, and this is not the deepest contest, so a chance is taken.
